Honest as the day is long: truth session has Tigers ready to stop Dragons

WESTS TIGERS players and coach Tim Sheens have engaged in a frank and open discussion about the team's ills in a bid to get back on track, starting with Sunday's game against premiers St George Illawarra at Jubilee Oval.

Referring to last weekend's narrow escape for a 20-18 win over Penrith, which followed a 29-18 loss to South Sydney, Tigers captain Robbie Farah said yesterday: ''We reviewed the game the next day and put it behind us. There's no point dwelling on it now.

''We've got to look forward to this weekend, so we had a good chat about the [Penrith] game and watched the video, and obviously picked out points where we thought we went wrong, and it's up to us now to fix that and work on our preparation.''

Asked if there were any home truths spoken at the meeting, Farah replied: ''Oh, definitely, yeah. We were pretty honest with each other about it, and I think that's important, too, to come out and be honest about those sorts of performances, and find out why they keep happening.

''That's got to be fixed or else we're not going to go too far in this competition.''

Pressed on what exactly had been spoken about, Farah said: ''We'll leave that in the room where we spoke, so I don't think that's for you to know.''

Sheens was livid after the game against the Panthers, using words such as stupid and disgraceful to describe the performance, and adding: ''St George Illawarra will lap us by 100 if we play like that.''

Asked yesterday what the process had been at training this week, Sheens replied: ''We've aired it, as we always do. When I'm happy with them I tell them, and when I'm not happy with them I tell them. And they've responded well.

''We had a really good [training] session two days ago, and today I've had a chat to quite a few of them. We're ready to get organised to play the Dragons. We need to be better than that to really be any sort of force this year.

''We just played so poorly that we kept shooting ourselves in the foot, and a side like the Dragons just feed off that. So we've got to be a lot better than that this week.''

The Tigers have a win-loss record of 5-5, and are in seventh place on the competition table. They won in both the second and third rounds but have not won back-to-back games since. They are literally up and down this season but have proved they can compete with the Dragons.

In last year's finals series, the Tigers were the only team that gave the Dragons a run for their money, losing 13-12 in a grand final qualifier.

''We're a fair way off that form at the moment,'' Farah admitted. ''But I've got no doubt we can find that form again. We're not playing our best but we know it's there. We're not too far off. We've just got to tweak a few little things, and I've got every confidence in the side still.

''We spoke at the start of the year about doing something in this competition, and my belief hasn't changed. Obviously, we're going through a tough time but you tell me a club that doesn't go through a tough time at some stage of the year.

''It's such a long year and a tough competition, and it's not going to be all rosy right throughout the year. ''

For some reason, I'm expecting an upset here, hope that will be the case. If they can't fire up for this game, I can't see them firing up at all.

They went into there last 2 games underdone expecting easy games I think but they'll know this weeks there big test n already knowing what there capable off I reckon we gunna c an upset

Would love to have been a fly on the wall at the 'frank and open discussion'!! After last week's shocker there probably wasn't much paint left on the walls by the time they'd finished!!!

I hope Robbie included himself in the "frank and open discussion" rather than signalling others who need to lift for this week. For much of last week's match (and the one before) he was aimless and, seemingly, apathetic. And, he is our leader! At his best, he is an absolute star of the game. And stars need to be shing brightly whenever you go go looking for them.

What a garbage article…..

"Were not telling you"

Pffft...Farah is really starting to ... me....sook , stop TVing, stop cooking, stop whinging about origin, stop twittering...just play freekin footy you whiner

umm Ink if the players had an all out 'honesty session' during which they were encouraged to point out any perceived shortcoming of individuals and of the team, then im quite certain that airing this information to the general public would not be well received by the team. use your brain buddy

If he didn't play last week we lose - if he didn't play against Souths we lose by 50.
He's been in our top 3 players (IMO best) player the last two games .
Think thats a harsh call LCA

So why write an article about it if theyre not saying anyything…shouldve been kept 'in house' reading articles is meant to be a learning experience...this is BS

im curious Ink, why isn't he allowed to have a life off the field?

He is...but when it starts to affect his primary occupation the rest should be toned down
He becoming a media [This word has been automatically removed], hes everywhere...and imo its affecting his game

You realise he doesn't go to the media, the media comes to him.

Faff has a responsibility to the media as club captain. He is an excellent ambassador and well spoken!!

But yes….this is affecting his footy.. :frowning:

I would imagine the club would want as much exposure as possible, helps bring in the sponsorship dollars.

he's not a media muppet, he knows what he is doing. A few quotes here and there isn't much at all.

HERE HERE

Farah's form has quite frank been garbage lately, he hasn't been up to a good standard since 2007/2008 and he dosen't deserve to be in origin for this reason. Anyone who says he does is kidding themselves, wake up! He has obvious hatred for Ennis, yet he is beginning to become more and more like the media muppet. Cut the crap and play some footy, results will come.
