One things for sure, Liddle will have to play a good standard of footy to keep young Simpkin out, looks every bit a long term NRL player.

And so does Liddle.

Exact point of my last post.

If I’m honest, I think Liddle is a bit of a worry defensively and I wouldn’t call him a tough player. Happy to be proven wrong by him though. I just think Simpkin will win the job.

It's easy to tell you have reservations. I'd say have a good look at him in person, at a game and his body is spot on.

Hasn't always been the case.

He needs to be judged from here on in not on the previous version of himself.
.
.

If he plays well rd 1 against the Raiders I’ll support his selection for rd 2. He’ll definitely be tested in that one.

So negative.

I like to be realistic mate, I’m yet to see him dominate in the NRL so I’m not about to expect it. Calling Papaali and Hodgson and co a test is just facts.

Lol but youre all in on Simpkin, give me a break.

i thought i read on here that he made the most tackles of WT player in the 40 mins he was on - plus there were 2 try saving tackles in the one set at one stage. I specifically watched his defensive game and have no problems if he defends like that each week. Similarly Simpkin's defence was solid and would have no problem with him starting. Nice headache for Madge.

I thought he made some big tackles on the line. He was great in defence IMHO.

He did - i'm sure some people on here just comment based on their biases. Liddle and Simpkin are both strong defensively. They are both NRL standard and i think it will become an issue trying to keep them both.

Here we are debating who is the best hooker, seriously i don't know. A few weeks ago people were crying out for Cheese, then Mc Innes, what a crap fight we would have now if we bought one of those, 3 hookers ?

Not at all, he’ll need to perform to hold down the spot if/when he wins it. Not sure why the attitude, I said it’s a great situation for the club to be in at hooker.

I'm glad we didn't purchase any hookers. We have two great ones. I hope we keep them both for a couple of years at least.

We've acquired Max Altus, the Aust Schoolboys hooker, from Farrar Ag. College. A tough hooker forward from the Northern Tablelands is always welcome.

I think that Liddle will be first selection for the 9,Madge will give him the opportunity to finally show us his great skills at the NRL level and see if he is over all the injuries...Jake will definately be the future 9 and Madge is going to blood him into the team and not push him,he still needs NRL experience but not get hammered week in week out while he develops into a top line NRL 9...

Liddle is 24. If he fires, I don't think Simkin will want to hang around for 6 or so years.

1, 9 and 14 are going to be interesting selections.

The choices are:
Liddle

Laurie
Mbye

Laurie and Liddle start in my opinion, but who misses out on the bench spot?

On the one hand, I’d choose Mbye at 14 for his versatility to cover 1, 3, 6, 7 and 9.

On the other hand, Simpkin is superior to Mbye at 9 and rotates well with Liddle, but offers no cover in the backline.

Really tough call after Rd 1.

Didn't you like Mbye's game on Sunday?

Laurie had a good debut, but I think we need to wait to see Mbye have a crack, before sending him to the bench?

Laurie is going to provide something to WTS that's been missing since Teddy left speed and elusiveness he will be priceless when WT'S get within 30 metres of the line he should be given first crack at FB with the hooking role Jacob showed enough against Manly to be given the hooking role Jake's time will come but it's a big ask to debut in FG at such a young age,for sheer effort and determination Jacob deserves first crack remembering Canberra have one of the best Hookers in the comp

Simpkin is 19 and already looks like a grown man, I think given a year or two to mature further he could be that Victor Radley style 13 we've been on the look out for. I think WTs could easily hold on to both players and both could do very well here.

For what it's worth, my crystal ball tells me Liddle will be our long term 9. And JS will be with us until his current contract ends and then move on. If Bris get a second team, he'll be their target. He may stay on with us for a year or two more if the bombers, dolphins, inbreds or whatever they call themselves kick off in say '24 or '25.

Yes your probably right...but Jacob has to stand the pressure of week in week out NRL,dont forget he has had a lot of injuries to overcome and I hope he stands up to it,but it also shows that an injury can come at anytime and we need to keep Jake developing to fill the roll for 80 gruelling minutes..
I think he will stay a Tiger for a long time...

Motivation?

Its only a Reject Shop crystal ball mate.

All will be revealed around the hooking role over the next 6 weeks or so . Jacob has a major issue with his defence he isn't a hit and stick type defender this again was obvious on Sunday , he is going to be exposed big time in this area .There could be some apprehension there due to previous shoulder issues,i hope this is the case as the guy deserves a good dig at the role .

Not sure I'd wanna see the Logo/ Mascot of that team.

I'd like to see Mbye too...apparently been going well.

It's not really an Mbye v Laurie thing for me. It's team balance...do we need cover for multiple positions in the 14 or do we need a hooker rotation?

If they don't tie up JS they need their heads examined. I can't see Hartigan letting him go.
