How are we really travelling?

Was surprised to see us 5th after all the weekend's results.

Media has pigeon-holed us as a "young exciting team" that can "blow a lead". 4 from 8 is not setting the world on fire, but apart from the Titans game we've been pretty dominant in our other 3 wins. 2 losses were very winnable (Dogs, Raiders) and the other 2 losses we were in it until up to the end.

We've shown a real ability to pile on points, whether to get in front (Drags, Dogs x 2, Raiders) or to reel a team in (Warriors).

Interestingly for a Tigers team, no floggings so far, and our F/A is pretty good; we are the best-placed of the 50%-ers.

So how do you think we are travelling?

I'd say the media still doesn't rate us; certainly we are still $34 to win the comp (equal worst with Titans, of the teams in the 8).

We've done well with injuries so far, which is my biggest positive.

I'd personally say, how close the comp is, this season will almost always rest on a knife's edge. A few heavy or close defeats could see you topple from the 8, whereas a strong surge like Cowboys / Dragons / Titans can put you right in there.

I think we are doing okay but I think we also need the following to improve:-

1\. Impact from the bench
2\. Our halves need to go a little better. I feel that this is a little harsh as they are doing really well. I just think Moses needs to add more to our attack and Brooks needs to work on his defence.

Some other points that I can see are that Lawrence getting benched was probably a good decision plus we have done pretty well with injuries.

We were 5 minutes of aggressive defence short in both the 1st Dogs game and the Raiders game which as much as I hate the phrase a game, "we should have won". That would have us coming 1st.

On top of that we turned out a good performance against the full strength Bunnies early on when our team was still finding itself.

We have the most improvement potential by far than any other club. I thought we'd struggle early and finish the season well but this team has exceeded my expectations thus far.

Our biggest hurdle will be if/when we get a few injuries

I think we are doing really well for all the inexperience we have in our team, we are getting combos together slowly slowly like Teddy and Naiqama last week and we are really showing what we can do when we get in our groove. Inexperience is costing us in the back-end of games but we will get there eventually when all the youngsters get 100 game under there belts. You wait 3 years and i guarantee we will be the next manly of 2005-2014.

We are a side with loads of talent, that lacks experience. I expect that our semi final chances will result in how we go in the tight ones, if we win our fair share of those we will probably make the 8.

I personally think we are not quite there.

We should defo have AT LEAST 2+ more wins than what we do.
Not even sure how we lost a couple of these games.

Still, all looks promising.
Hopefully some more big wins and a top 8 finish this year.
Would love another prem but can't expect anything but defo within the next few years I think.

Can I say that many of our performances this season have a NYC feel about them

Am I the only one that feels that way ??

Nah the defence has been too good for the most part. NYC scores would be more like 56 - 38 every week

Yes..

Consistency was always going to ne a problem with such a young team…We are travelling better than I expected....then there are other teams who are travelling worse than I expected Souff's/Rorters,,,

If we can maintain a plan of not loosing back to back games and have string wins the 8 is within our reach....Origin will test depth but I'm more cofident we'll xome through it better than I expected at the start of the season...

really well i reckon we can make a really nice run during origin.

notice we've had very few home games (probably the fewest of the comp). during origin we will get quite a lot more. i think between R13 and 20 we have 5 home games, 2 away and a bye. something like that anyway

If you said at the start of the season by round 8 we'd be fifth with a 4-4 record and 2nd best attack in the competition I would've said 'Sounds about right".

Having seen the way we've lost some of those games, it makes it a little more underwhelming, but that's a good thing. You want every loss you have to be a tight one, just for it not to become a habit.

The area's of improvmenet is really a tactical one. I have a strong belief that Taylor is telling Moses to hang out on the fringes and let Brooks control our attack. I would prefer to see them work in tandem, the sooner the better, but I trust his judgement. I'm just waiting for that particular plan to change as it'll give us a much better lok at how that combination is going to look in the years to come.

I'd like to sort out Sue as well. He was told to be a 2nd rower in the off-season and dropped alot of weight to up his stamina, and now he's back into the prop rotation? It's a little confusing. I like him in the side over Lovett, who I just don't think protects brooks as much as he should. There's also no real threat in attack from him anymore, outside of his debut. I'd prefer Maybe Sue back to 2nd rower, Lovett on the bench and then swap Sue into the prop rotation if necessary? Especially considering Lodge is back in the team, wouldn't mind this happening.

Overall, I'mn a happy tiger.

3 of the 4 wins are away games which is good. We should be 5-3 though. I can understand that very young/inexperienced team losing to the Bulldogs (R4) but we should have got the win at Leichhardt last week.

I'm happy where we are at this stage.
Like most on here I didn't expect to be position 5 on the ladder and a 4/4 win /loss.

Having said that, injuries have been light, the young blokes have had 8 more games together, combinations have been improving, defense has been improving (for the most part) and JT has been able to loosen the strings a little.

I see us continuing along similar lines for the next 10 games (good week and the odd bad week), which is what we expected at the start of the season. If we can continue along the lines we have, I can see us making the eight. Won't be disappointed if we miss out as long as we have been competitive. Would like to see us make it for the young guys to get finals experience even if it is only one game.

My expectations will be a bit higher for 2016 however.

Squaddy, the best result was Friday against the Dogs,it showed that they learnt from their bad game against the Raiders, turn up for 80 mins, kick and chase, defend for the entire game, don't switch off…

Also they will get better as the season progresses, play and support each other, the attack will come the signs are there and starting to appear.....the win against the dogs I think is the turning point for their season, hopefully it just keeps getting better...

Taylor did say in the last presser that Moses was playing a role "for the team" rather than for himself, which I took to mean rather than his own natural game.

He went further saying it is difficult to get so many talented players involved and keep structure, at present it meant that Moses wasnt getting a chance to show his talents at this stage, but was doing a great job for the team especially defensively

I don't have the confidence that others do of us holding together through origin, but we are doing well. Keefy's Renaissance was unexpected, and though I'd like to have seen a bit more defensive starch than attacking flair at the moment, I can't complain too much.
Would like to see the back of Lovett sooner rather than later though.

Yeh I think we'll struggle heavily without woods and Farah.

Think you're completely off the mark with the assessment on Lovett though. We really haven't seen enough of him to even make a reasonable assessment IMO.

Not necessarily that he's just not up to first grade standard (though admittedly I have my reservations about that too) more that I feel like we've got better options.
