How I see it

Dessie Hasler is a smart, smart man.

Last week, the 8th placed Tigers (only slightly) almost beat his full-strength team, and would have, if the refs didn't find their qualifications in a cereal box.

He is stunned by this and quickly realizes if there is a team to lose to during the finals, it's the Tigers.

'Hmm' he thinks. There is a possibility that the Tigers may just miss out on the finals, as they are 8th with the raiders on their tails and 2 other teams closely followed.

He realizes that his team, in fact play the Raiders next weekend (of course) and that he has the 'wriggle' room to lose a game and still win the minor premiership.

'But how do I lose a game big enough to help the Raiders fix their plus/minus without looking weak?'
'I know! I will 'rest' my players because they are weak and couldn't possibly go on and play a further 4 or 5 games. And then it will look like we lost because we were missing a key player.'

Well played Hasler, well played

I hope your OP is a gee up, Moltz92, otherwise you are somewhat deluded!

I think Dessie would be more concerned about Manly, Melbourne, Nth QLD and perhaps Cronulla - you know the teams that have actually played well for most of the year, than he would be about the Tigers. Not to mention, he didn't rest half the team, only 2 players, neither of which are game breakers, so there goes your conspiracy theory :unamused:

Put simply, Canterbury just capitulated after a 12 game winning streak. It's not the first time it has happened - the mental and physical effort of maintaining a long winning streak is immense and when it comes to an end teams will often get a bit of touch up. I recall our last 2 games of the 2005 season when were soundly beaten by Penrith and Melb after winning 9 straight. Sorry to bust your theory, but it happens.
