How much money will be freed up with Ellis and Lote gone?

Am I the only one who thinks the only thing that makes sense is to take to sacrafice Moltzen and add his money to the cash thats left over from Ellis and Lote and have one giant crack at Cooper Cronk before he re-signs with the Storm?

Gallen is the only player we could sign who would effectively replace Ellis, IMO.

When you factor in every aspect of a backrowers game Gareth is one of the most complete players in the game.

For starters you need someone who can play for 80 minutes which rules out alot of players. Then you have to consider work rate, defense, mobility, off-loading ability, leadership, hole-running etc. Hardly anyone who can give you all that.

Ellis has been simply outstanding, but at 31 next yr the reality is hes had a lot of footy,a lot of injuries,& weve probably seen the best of him & he fully deserves a long stint in semi retirement in ESL.My guess is despite all that he'll still be our best forward in 2012,but it doesnt last forever.
And ditto Lote who is 33 next yr…definitely past his best-by date,& hopefully he'll deliver this yr like he did in 2010,but hardly worth his current contract continuing past 2012 at this age, particularly as a winger.
If Humphries is astute he cld pick up just about anyone next yr who is available if he so chooses..Im just hoping its not Dollar Bill personally,If Moltzen and Tedesco fire as anticipated,it will be quite a dilemna as to who we chase.
And Gallen/Lewis etc are both way too old to be signing up at this stage of their careers

Ellis has given us everything, good luck to him back home, but the player i would sign to take his place is Sika Manu. Manu could be fantastic with us & he is only 25 so plenty of fuel left in the tank.

2012 is Gareth's last year with us. Lets target Tariq SIMS.

Is he off contract Bug? If so, for sure, he'd be great but I would suspect the Cowboys will fight hard to keep him since he's so young.

Another option if he is off contract, he's certainly a handful with the ball in hand. I'm hoping BMM can really knuckle down and kick on this year because he has the talent to succeed if he puts in the hard yards.

What about Dave Taylor,he might like a shot at a premiership, but his wife might want a return to QLD

Thaiday ,Jeremy Smith and Luke Lewis all fit that bill if you ask me Possibly Greg Bird ??

I understand that line of thinking entirely, it would free up plenty of cash. I think the club will wait and see how Moltzen goes at 7 before making a call on that one though. If he kills it with Benji I reckon he'll stay. If it proves to be a flop, well time will tell.

Id rather sign Pol Pot than Greg Bird, no time for him after the incidents of a few years ago

Well If we are talking international leaders i think Putin would be a handy back rower!

I agree with the sentiment on Dave Taylor.. if his heart was in proportion to his body he'd be a champion through and through. Will be interesting to see how he goes under Maguire this year. If that improves his work ethic i wouldn't say no.. but again, not a candle on Ellis.

Sika Manu i can't stand. He might be a unit but he is dirty and i dont think he is mobile enough.

Jeremy smith would be a good option, Luke Lewis is getting on and i dont think either Gallen/Lewis/Thaiday would leave their respective clubs

I can't believe i'm saying this but what about Beau Scott?

We have impressive back rowers in the under 20's. I hope these are given the opportunity to step up rather than purchasing an established player whom another club has nurtured. The Sharks deserve to keep Gallen for his entire career providing they can pay him what he is worth.

Beau Scott in my opinion offers very little. He can defend but that is it. He over achieved under Bennett.

I believe we should develop our own talent.

According to zero tackle the following second rowers are off contract at the end of 2012:

Harlan Alaalatoa, Blake Austin, Matt Bell, Scott Bolton, Lewis Brown, Michael Chee Kam, Anthony Cherrington, Boyd Cordner, Michael Crocker, Aidan Guerra, Nathan Hindmarsh, Chris Houston, Josh Jackson, Ethan Lowe, Todd Lowrie, Micheal Luck, Simon Mannering, Sika Manu, Jake Marketo, Tyson Martin, Sam Mataora, Mark Minichiello, Junior Moors, Kyle O'Donnell, Tyrone Peachey, Daniel Penese, Eddy Pettybourne, Steve Rapira, Robbie Rochow, Shane Shackleton, Ashton Sims, Ukuma Ta'ai, Zeb Taia, Jason Taumalolo, Ben Te'o, Jarrod Thompson, Ricky Thorby, Atelea Vea, Mark Wade, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves

Tarig Sims has been resigned by the cowboys. Lets go back to England and land a young pommy forward maybe Ellis can steer us in the right direction.
