How would you judge whether Potter has been a success?

I know this is a long way away , but how do we judge whether Potter 2 years is a success or failure

What are your biggest five prerequisites for him being a success ??

For me it will be these area that MUST change

1 / Attitude Both from the team and the coach When things go wrong (and they probably will from time to time) He hands up admits he has made a mistake and takes 100% responsibility
The players attitudes also

I want everyone of these blokes to know if they don't perform they are benched or back in NSW Cup that we won't carry ANYONE anymore

2/Accountability The players need to be accountable for every performance they put in None of this "its too hard crap and put the cue in the rack and let the points mount up"

3/ Juniors We have arguably as talented juniors coming through as any other club in the NRL
I want them to know what direction that Potter wants them to be heading to become better players and if they are only flattrackers to not persist with them Too often we have carried talented juniors that look the goods when we win by 40 and go missing when it matters the most We need to slowly blood them and not hit the panic button when they have a bad game or two (Groat comes to mind) Even a player like Koroibete is going to have his off days

4/ Direction Both on and off the field On field Potter needs to try and get some regimentation into the club I want every second rower at the club to know what he is expected to do if he was to be called up to NRL ,same goes for every centre (left or right side ) etc etc etc Then we don't have to resort to making 7 changes to replace one player as in the past Off field I hope Humpty has Potter's back come hell or highwater and is prepared for a season in 2013 of some learning what our strengths and weaknesses on the field and let Potter have 1000% control
I don't care if we finish 14th next season as long as I can see where we are heading

5/ Recruitment We need to start recruiting for the long term future , not Dad's Army where we buy a guy because we are too scared to persist with our juniors and our development

If Potter can get these 5 areas right I see a bright future for the club both on and off field If not we could see 4-5 years of problems

Any areas any else wishes to see become a priority for the future of the club ??
 
You have got the basic points covered Happy.

I'd be greatful to see players reach potential, juniors looked after and deadweight dropped. Nothing worse than seeing a great looking team fall way short of what they should be capable of.

Also I won't be sad if Potter doesn't follow Sheens' usual tactic of shifting Lawrence/Ayshford into the halves.
 
I think his list to do is reasonably short actually. To me i see just a few key areas. The first is obviously our strategy as a team. It needs to shift to higher focus on defense. The players need to make defense their priority in 2013\. So Potter needs to force a mentality shift from the guys.

The second thing he needs to do in order to be judged a success is to negotiate the implementation of youth into the top 25 but to also successfully integrate them into the 17\. He needs to find the formula to turn some of this potential into reliable first grade talent. Koroibete, Tedesco, Noafoluma and Sironen are the obvious names here and i would hope that by the end of 2013 that all 4 of these guys were then viewed as first graders of real promise and had shown the ability in games through out the season.

Accountability is my last point. Potter needs to show that names and past experience mean little. So far he has indicated this is the case which is great, but the key will be once the games begin. For me i want to see our players doing the little things right, making sure the 1% are looked after. Too often our players go missing in games and they need to know this can't be tolerated. If you start with a mindset about of ensuring the 1%'s are taken care of i think other things roll into place and accountability becomes less of a concern.

For me 2013 will again be a results driven thing, however for Potter and weather or not he is viewed as a success. this should not be the deciding factor. The club is going through a change and if Potter looks after the above then i think we'll be looking okay. I stress patience though because our players have had it a certain way for so long now and now there is change and change isn't always easy and usually always takes time.
 
what he does, or doesn't do will be seen easily imo.

our problems arent technical or a lack of talent, our problems are mainly attitude… so it will be the basic use of "we" instead of "i" in the interviews, the whole team running in the moment an opposition player rasises an arm on your team, forwards running straight and hard without fear... things like that.

as every new appointment is, potter's success will be seen immediately if he is successful, seeing failure will take time.
 
I know it's not completely his responsibility but retention will also be a big factor in the next two years. Specifically Farah next year, and also seeing as Miller is currently (?) off contract, if he proves to be a success in the halves then others could come knocking as they already have. Ideally Farah's future would be sorted out ASAP before the rep season rolls round. Dont need extra distractions in the back half of the year
 
Results aren't as important to me as the change in attitude. No more losses like the st.george round 3 and roosters round 25\. Then I'll be happy.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'd love to see this team perform at >= 90% every week. It has happened in recent years, but only for streaks of one or two months.

I can take losses, so long as we put in a strong showing.
 
The most important KPI's for mine will be a marked shift in attitude and accountability for performances. I don't believe he has an extensive list of problems to rectify as most of our issues emanate from those two key problems.

Everything else should fall into place after that.

I agree with an attitude change I want a mentally as well as physically tough side. The other thing is the defence. I know it mostly attitude but our technique needs an overhaul as well.
 
Rectify the mind set …. Wests leading Souths by heaps with under 10 to go and get beaten ! fix this up Potter is a success and the rest will take care of it self.
 
all i want the team to be is consistently performing on the field even if we are 40 in front or 40 behind i want them to show like they want to win,and not fall away at times, and defend like their life depends on it
 
Potter will be successful if he can improve our weaknesses on a weekly basis without affecting our strengths.
 
what is our strength? except touch footy?

maybe some of our individuals have some strengths, but as a team, i fail to find one tbh…
