HULL FC target Jacob Miller looks set to stay in the NRL at Wests Tigers as new coach Mick Potter has identified him as one for the future.
The Black and Whites have made an offer to the 20-year-old half-back in a bid to tempt him to Super League in 2013.
Desperate to sign a scrum-half of quality, Hull took the step of making both Gold Coast captain Scott Prince and Miller aware of the terms they were prepared to offer.
FC hope one of the two will come to fruition, but Miller now looks to be out of reach, given confirmation of Potter's appointment.
Wests' recruitment manager, Warren McDonnell, told the Mail Potter had already spoken to him about Miller ahead of his appointment, stressing he was part of his plans.
"Jacob has another year left to run on his contract here and I don't think a move to Hull FC will be happening," McDonnell told the Mail.
"I spoke with Mick about his plans for the future and Jacob is part of them.
"The chances of a move might have been better earlier in the season, but there is a new coach here now and Mick wants him to stay.
"He is an impressive kid with a bright future ahead of him.
"Jacob got a taste of first-grade rugby both last year and this season, and I can't see him leaving us now.
"We are going through a good period of good half-backs here with the likes of Benji Marshall in our ranks.
"I really think he will learn more next season under Mick."
Miller may have only played a handful of NRL games, but he has been making a name for himself at representative level.
He kicked six goals for the Junior Kangaroos against New Zealand recently, led the Tigers' own under-20s to Grand Final success over Canberra and captained New South Wales' under-20s against Queensland.
He was identified as a player Hull could nip in and snare by coach Peter Gentle, especially given the uncertainty at Wests following Tim Sheens' recent departure.
That door appears to have been closed now, with a more expensive move for the experienced Prince, 32, still in the offing.
He has yet to give FC a decision, and has been locked in talks with his current club over his long-term future.
McDonnell, father of former Hull KR player Shannon, also confirmed his son's move to FC is all but done.
The full-back left MS3 Craven Park after his one-year contract expired, and has made completing a long-touted move to FC his 'number one priority', McDonnell senior said.
"He enjoyed his time in Hull with Rovers and is keen to stay in the city," he said.
"He's excited about the possibility of playing under Peter again. He has a lot of time for him and likes the style of his coaching.
"Shannon had a lot of time for Craig Sandercock too.
"He played 22 straight games for them and in the next six games, they only won once.
"Shannon did his best for Rovers and if he did sign for Hull, I'm sure he might get a bit of stick from the KR fans.
"But the fact Rovers' captain Ben Galea has made the move may take the heat off Shannon a little bit."
