More of a reason to piss the joint venture off.

Make it wests tigers and that's it. No half half s***. It's the whole bloody problem and while it continues to be like that we are going to struggle to get what we need.

How does that fix Balmain's debt or determine WT ownership?

_Posted using RoarFEED 2013_

For one thing WT shouldn't need to rely on leagues club funding from anyone. That mode of operation is over in terms of running a successful NRL team.

Ownership? Well that's pretty simple. A common membership could elect boards, make decisions. The football clubs could retain nominal ownership of the license if they want and possibly supply a minority of board members but the underlying principle is that the members are the ones who should be charged with running the club through their own representatives.

Why did steve humphries request a $1.2m cheque from Ashfield in dec 2012 and why are they are asking for a further $900k now?

Long way from being no reliant on leagues clubs..

Read what I said again… "shouldn't need" The point I'm making is our CEO shouldn't have to ask any club for money.
How many other teams in the comp are reliant on registered clubs to run a team?

Penrith, Cronulla, Parra, maybe St George Illawarra with the latter two being more of a extras funding then reliance. Cronulla is soon to have zero reliance on club revenue after the development finishes but they have a inclusive management structure

Canberra actually purchased a few Tradies clubs in the ACT which brings them good money

aahhh… The plight of premiership glory.

This is one area I'm hoping the ARLC start cracking down on, and ensure clubs are trading within their means... Some of the clubs are so reckless with money, its scary!

This may surprise some, but Im not really very fond of Stephen, but for Potsy's sake…I hope the joint is as stable as possible over the next few years.

However it looks like he may already be fighting a losing battle

With the exception of Brisbane and Souths (??), all clubs rely on a leagues club or benefactor to plug the holes. In one instance (Manly) the benefactor owns the leagues club.

I argue the leagues club model is best. There is a direct connection from the NRL team to the community. We have a great JV and no need to change.

I have no problem with the likes of Wests Ashfield/Campbelltown (and if it ever eventuates, Tigers Balmain,) supporting the community, but for mine that is sponsoring the semi professional seniors and juniors teams in their respective localities. I will concede that it's a necessary evil while the game is slowly realising it's own self worth (increased broadcast deals,) but I would like to see the clubs take active measures in increasing their revenue via other means than relying on leagues clubs. I'd like to see the leagues clubs put their money (largely earned through proceeds of gambling,) back into grass roots activities, not "professional" rugby league teams.

Can we do like Cronulla are about to do, start fresh with a new commitee. An asortment of business leaders, successful companies, treasury etc… People that want to see the Wests Tigers be a successful club. As someone said earlier, if they don't sort out the bickering, then evryone looses. The clubs all go bust andthe Wests Tigers have to relocate to Central Coast, Ipswich etc... Then what good is your vote. A vote of no confidence and give the Rosalie council a kick up th earse, pass the building plans and let the Balmain club imporve the area and bring in more money for the local community. Just my opinion. :sign:

No offence Shoooshie, but can we NOT do whatever the hell Cronulla are gonna do next? How about we do what the likes of the dogs and Souths are doing.

Yes agreed.I hardly think Cronulla should be thhe benchmark for running a successful business.

We all want our team run professionally, but as soon as we get a CEO who makes the obvious choice to take our home games to where the money is, you better be ready to watch the bitching going on.
We want the success the dogs have but want to play in sh*tty little grounds like the sharks. A real operator wont listen to the fans.

They almost bought the local Leagues Club up here in Gladstone Smeg

The Gladstone Rep side are known as the Raiders

Still a chance cronulla may go under financially by end of year..

Won't happen. The NRL will bail them out. It will cost less to keep them running then it will in penalties to the broadcasters for failing to deliver on the terms of the deal.

Yep,but with lots of strings, probaly re-location being the big one.Its been said since 1966(?) that the NSWRL didn't need a Sutherland Shire based club,it was traditional Saints territory although they're been in the comp. so long now there would be a major dramas if they were forced to move.

I don't see how though. The development deal passed ($300m), they got an injection of $10m cash immediately to reduce their debt to a serviceable $3m and are now pretty secure financially.

There are definitely challenges for them short term but to go under would be near impossible IMO.

Do you read this in Bourbon Becs article today?

I posted last night before article was released. Sharks were only brought in to break up dominance of st.george in 50s/60s… Completely moved on from those days.

Apart from upsetting fans, there is no strategic benefit in bailing out sharks... The NRL did not save balmain, Wests, Norths, St.George, Steelers or the original Gold Coast so why should they ensure Cronulla live on?

Survival of the fittest... Re-locate to Perth or drop to nsw cup and allow another team to enter NRL
