Humphries announcement

As you may recall in my last letter to you around one month ago, our Club announced that we would commence a search for a new NRL Coach to take us into the future.

Over the last few weeks we have been managing a thorough selection process and taken the time to speak with many quality candidates.

During this time, there have also been several unfounded media reports regarding this process and our Club generally. Regrettably the circulation of these unsubstantiated stories is beyond our control but nevertheless I wanted to personally apologise for the unnecessary concern and anxiety that these stories caused many of you.

Today, I’m thrilled to inform you we have found our man. That man is Mick Potter.

Mick has signed on as our NRL Coach for the next two seasons and starts his role with immediate effect.

We see him as the perfect person for the role.

As a player he was a Premiership winner with the Canterbury Bulldogs in 1984 and 1985\. He was also a dual winner of the Dally M Player of the Year Award during an outstanding 201 game career.

Since his retirement as a player, Mick has become one of the most respected coaches in the English Super League, having coached Catalan, St Helens and Bradford with great distinction.

When he was at Catalan he developed what was a fledgling Club into an extremely competitive side that reached the Challenge Cup Final in just his second year at the helm. The following year in 2008 he achieved a third place finish in the Premiership and was awarded the coveted Super League Coach of the Year.

He then enjoyed further success at a much more established Club in St Helens. In his two seasons at the Club, he took them to the Finals in the Premiership in each year.

More recently at Bradford, Mick endured a tumultuous year with the Club going into administration. Despite the obvious difficulties, he still would have guided his side into the Finals had it not been for the six points penalty imposed. Yet again his efforts were recognised when he received the Super League Coach of the Year Award for the 2012 season.

Mick is such a well credentialed and respected Coach who possesses the attributes that we are all seeking. He will bring a fresh pair of eyes and a new energy to our Club which is exciting for everyone involved.

It’s great to see how enthusiastic Mick is about this opportunity.

He is very much looking forward to working with the entire squad, in particular our star playmakers Robbie Farah and Benji Marshall. He knows that these two men are key to our future success and will be integral to Mick’s plans.

The squad report back for duty in early November and from here on in, Mick will be working with our coaching staff to finalise our pre season schedule. He has already been briefed on our initial training plan and I’m pleased to advise that he’s given it his full endorsement.

To get to know Mick a little better, we have put together a video with him which I hope satisfies your curiosity somewhat. You can watch this clip on our website.

In a few weeks time we will catch up with him again to give you another update on our progress.

I am sure you will join me in welcoming him to our great Club.

We have some exciting times ahead and I know Mick will be the man to show us the way.

IT’S MY LIFE! Make it a part of YOURS in 2013.
