I got a bad feeling about this game

I thought it was remarkable that they managed to cross the stripe five times. For a team that was struggling to come to grips with awful news they still managed to play enough footy to give the Chooks a scare in the last ten minutes. That game said more about Easts than it did about us, which was evidenced yesterday when that same team was decimated by a Manly side who had their mind on the game for eighty minutes!

Golden, I know you get your rocks off by being a pessimistic piece of work who loves to deathride this club, but I'm willing to bet you wouldn't be able to do your job to the best of your ability when someone close to them passes away. For once, cut them some slack.

actually I lost someone close to me last year my mentor and great freind to cancer a year ago, the next day later I went to work and did my work like normal even with it in the back of my head, I know how to keep the personal life away from a job.

deathride? please just because in a live game thread when we are playing bad and down by 20 to the faiders and I am saying how bad we are doesn't mean it's deathriding. what do you want me to say its no problem they will win and win the comp?

Just saying 'we will win' every week no matter how bad or good we are doesn't make you more of a fan then me or anyone else

And when did I infer that? I have no doubt you have passion for the team because you wouldn't be a member of an online forum dedicated to the club. Don't turn this into another "real fan" quagmire.

The fact you aren't can't cut the team a break because they couldn't put their "personal life away from their job" is ordinary to say the least. In any other line of work, they wouldn't have been required to show up. Just because you can march on after losing someone close, it doesn't automatically mean that the rest of society should adhere to your mindset.

And don't insult people's intelligence regarding Farah. He feels he is ready to play, and as such will be subject to critique with the rest of the team.

I do but that has nothing to do with Football or that game On Sunday I refuse to beleive any offield stuff effect performance for an ENTIRE TEAM on the field. individual performance? maybe yes.

Google Brett Favre father dies game. as I said last week and watch one of the greatest performance ever by a athlete playing the night of the day his father died, and you tell me that an entire team can play bad because of it.

Tendulkar scored a 100 the day his father died. if he got a duck people would have said that he was effected by it

Point is it didn't matter what happened that sunday the tigers didn't play good at all and were flogged by a bad team

If farah has a shocker tonight misses tackles drops the ball plays terrible and we lose by 30 what will you say that made that happen?

I bet your answer will be the same for both those questions.

Well like every other game, most people will give their opinion on the individual game as they see it. Can't speak for others but I base my opinion on what I see rather than trying to pre-empt events by having reasons/excuses prepared in advance.

People play good people play bad, and last Sunday we were bad. had nothing to do with anything off field.

If something off field affects an individual then it is going to indirectly affect the whole team. A good team comes down to the team working together as a Unit, if there is a weak link then it is going to bring down the team.
But besides that, the whole team is directly linked to their team-mates mother. (If you didn't see the emotion displayed by the boys last Sunday) So it's fair to say (and cut them some slack) that they were affected by that and that indirecetly affected how they performed as "a team"

No I am not he shouldn't have played and rightfully didn't

I am pointing out once again that a team or player can play good after an upsestting event. last weeks game we played a bad game and I have seen us play bad like that before so that is why it was no different for me into finding an of field exuse. let's say we were a consistant team like the Storm, and then we put on a performance like that after the news THEN I would believe it. but that was no different to our loses agains the dragons and raiders this year.

If he has a blinder, I will say he had a great game and thus deserves praise. Inversely if he has played badly, I would adjudge the effort as poor. Mitigating circumstances are irrelevant this week, (likewise with the rest of the team,) as he has declared himself ready to play.

I'm pretty sure I covered all that in my last post which means you're not reading my posts or only choosing to read whatever supports your opinion, so I have no interest in discussing this issue any further.

No I am not he shouldn't have played and rightfully didn't

Well because there WAS a significant off-field event that had a clear impact on the team's mentel preparedness. We've lost other games this year and there wasn't the same excuse put up. In any case for one thing people react to things differently and for another it's not really the same thing - Favre has one job to focus on (passing the ball). Okay it is a big effort after losing a relative but he's not out their non-stop for 80 minutes needing to focus for half that time in making tackles or his place in the defensive line. Attack was not an issue out there for good chunks of the game - that often comes naturally. But having to raise the mental effort to defend was clearly too much for some of our guys.

I just don't see why you won't accept there was excuses for last week's performance when the evidence was clear to see pre game.

It seems regardless of everyone's individual opinions wether its on Sheens, or Moltzen, everyone has come to an agreement on this forum that last week meant nothing in the context of our season and that the match was a write-off. I don't believe this is a must win game. If we want to win the minor premiership it is :slight_smile: Fact of the matter is, given the week we've had we'll be vulnerable. Not to the extent of last sunday but i reckon we'll battle for the 2 points tonight. Not saying we'll lose, in fact i believe we'll win. But i reckon we'll do some good things, drift in and out of form through out but those champion qualities guys like Marshall and Farah have will get us home.

It will be to stay in touch with the top 4 as you suggested. Even with the Bye next week we're under pressure to keep winning now. It doesn't look like Brisbane, Melbourne and Canterbury are going to drop too many more games this year so the last spot is up for grabs.

Also, a win will keep 4 points between 8th and 9th spot, and at the very worst 7th spot (6th spot if we win by 26 points.)
