If Balmain or Wests had died would you still be a league sup

i would follow league and half follow who ever had the most entertaining team, so most likely canberra or new zealand.

Followed the pies if they had of gone probably followed the tigers, If no tigers could not of followed the dogs, i hate the dogs, i hate the dogs, have i told you guys i hate the dogs.

I remember back in the Super League days when there was a real threat of Balmain becoming extinct I often thought to myself what would I do if that happened.

While I am a Tiger through and through I have always had a bit of a soft spot for the Panthers and would probably have had a bigger interest in them (it would never be the same though and I don't think I would have been a supporter that goes out to their games etc.).

As a Balmain Football Club member I am proud to say I voted for the merger and was at Campbelltown for game one - in some ways being involved and there for the start of the new club has made me love it even more (a bit like a child…and we certainly through the terrible two's!!).

Probably would have kicked rocks for a year or so but in the end I am a rugby league fan more than a Balmain or Wests Tigers fan and therefore would still be involved.

Probably would have become a cowboys fan I'd say….

While this is a totally hypothetical question I can give you some idea of what it's like when your Junior club folds, I come from Bathurst in Group 10 territory and our latest and greatest good news story should have been Harry Seijka all of 19 years of age making his debut for the Penrith Panthers last Saturday.
However a local derby between 2 rival Orange clubs got out of hand over the weekend and the ref decided he couldn't handle the situation and called the game off, what happened then was that an 'Irate' supporter from @#$#@ took it upon himself to convey his feelings to the referee.
As League is still a sort of major sport in this region the game was 'filmed by both networks, Prime & WIN',because of the ensuing brouhaha etc this game then became 'National News'.
As a result the Orange Hawks were excluded from the Group 10 competition as a result of a brawl that was telecast nationally.
While I don't follow Group 10 footy like I used to it has a certain parallel to what happened to my old club Bathurst Railway in 1993, I sort of get emotional about these things but when my old Junior club was kicked out for far less than the Orange Hawks I sort of get a little angry about it.
We still have Balmain and Wests in the NSW Cup and while there are a few stirrers out there it's the best we can do, try losing your club altogether and then get a real perspective on how things are going beyond the Blue Mountains, yes Rugby League does exist in areas beyond the MacArthur region.

Speaking from my personal experience as I was a Brisbane Wests supporter and they folded it is a very hard thing to deal with as we supported the team as a family
Some of my uncles wouldn't speak to one of there younger brother for months who played for Brisbane Easts . I suppose the fact I lived in Ipswich and played some juniors for the Ipswich Jets made it a little more bearable but now just follow the useless Comets and couldn't care really who won as long as the East Tigers don't win (Just joking Watto)

Hmmm, if we wernt in id support Norths…......but thats not very praftical. I go thruogh stages of having soft spots for certain teams, so id say id end up being a fairweather fan, which would suck.

You won't beat the Comets at home Watto 2nd last on the table will be looking so good for the East Tigers (Lucky Sunshine Coast is there for you blokes anyway) Not that 3rd last on the table is much better lol

I was Balmain…. My transformation was Almost exactly the same as ink... I used to say that I was 'taking an interest' in the wt. Watched a lot less footy than I do currently and did before for a couple of years but used to watch the wt games when on. My interest grew n I was back hooked again by 2001... Love the wests tigers!!!!

Ironically if the tigers had died i would probably have followed the magpies in some way. They were always my second team, i grew up in Lidcombe.

I never had a problem with the merger.

I feel the same way.
I have and still do follow the Western Suburbs Magpies since 1972 so I still love them.
As for the merger it wasnt a problem to me at all.
I have lived in the Liverpool area since 1968.
Campbelltown is just up the road.

Regards, :sunglasses:

As a magpie I feel that this merger was the fairest. I have to admit that it's not the same and I don't have the passion and interest in League as I used to.
I'm not too sure why, whether it is that the Magpies do not exist in the NRL or it's because Rugby League does not have personalities anymore. My opinion is that football has become too clinical over the years. I used to go to every Wests game, rain hail or shine. I used to have a huge Wests flag and I had the pleasure of spending one day a week with a group of people that I will never forget. Great times.

After playing for 16 years in the Balmain Juniors and at Junior Rep level I wanted nothing more than my son to do the same and then hopefully play for the Wests Tigers but after the way I saw the Juniors treated this year I would prefer he play somewhere else. I love the Tigers and would always support them as long as they are there but Balmain's Junior rep teams are now full of rejects from other districts and I just don't know what 's best for my son anymore. Even the Cub Squad now has out of district kids selected. :crazy .

Impossible question to answer really…..thankgod for the successful merger. I have a few mates who were Norths supporters and while they follow league it is not with the same passion and none of them have another team - they still follow Norths in NSW cup.

I attended 1962/63 Grand Finals as a boy and many Saturday games at the SCG, fabulous memory. Of course Pratten Park and Lidcombe Oval. Not much Ctown or Leichhardt or SFS but I like Homebush. But to answer the question. If Wests had gone, no, no other team. Just have an interest. But follow the B & W in AFL, EPL, but the Giants in NFL. Cheers.

Bad news for the East Tigers Watto Comets smashed Tigers 36-22 . Oh well lucky for you guys that Sunshine Coast are a mile behind

I've thought about that often, I love footy too much to not support it and regularly go to games not involving my teams, I reckon I would have become a Penrith fan, seemed to watch them alot around the time we were booted, I was cheering hard for them when the panthers won in 2003,I was almost a fan then

For me it changed when the merge happened as id followed a team for years and now they are gone, replaced by the joining of one club i loved with one i hated with a passion.
Will never be the same for me but for younger fans its a different era and possibly all they know so its a different discussion.
cheers
