"If you build it they will come"

Jim Courier asked Bernard Tomic after the match that he just won in the Australian Open, centre court, what were you thinking 2 sets down, in the heat, calling the trainer against a seeded player? Tomic gasped and said I dont know - i heard voices in the crowd - i couldnt of done it without them.

It made me think - kill leichhardt and campbelltown and build a wests tigers stadium where the seats are close to the ground (like ellis park in soud efrika) filled to the brim with wests tigers fans. We dont need this sqabbling between wests and balmain anymore, its stunting our growth. Its 2012 for crying out loud - lets be the first to break the mould and get a stadium. I'm sure they'd come from north, south, east and west.

It seems as though we have the ammunition, the population, but it doesnt seem we have the brain power.

Is anybody else here proud of the people that run our clubs (wests - balmain)- i think its time to unite, it will happen no doubt, but in our lifetime? Give the people a stadium! :bash

Thats the only way I would want to give up Leichhardt and Campbelltown. If we had our own purpose built stadium. And this is unlikely.
Opposition players regularly name Leichhardt sa the toughest ground to play at, whilst Wests Tigers players say its the best. Because of the fans.

2 questions?
1\. Where would this stadium be?
2\. Would we still maintain our junior nursery's?

Because it doesn't make sense walking away from 1 of the biggest growth areas in Sydney all because we want to give WT a seperate identity

Great idea AHX. I believe the day will come where for one reason or another we will have to cease to use Leichardt oval. Whilst history, tradition and all that Jazz is great but its only going to get us so far. A purpose built Tiger stadium with black, orange and white seats would be fantastic, a similar scoreboard to what Penrith have in the shape of a Panther, but obviously a Tiger. Biggest issues i can see with it is funding and the age old argument over the location and abandoning the Macarthur or Balmain area…

Wests Tigers a separate identy to what exactly? i missed something.

No need to play dumb. A seperate identity from Wests and Balmain, which seems to be the basis of this entire thread

Have the new ground at Concord Oval

I've agreed before that Concord is the only option at the moment for us to have one ground (if the funding was ever available). Campbelltown is very convenient for me but I go to our games at Leichhardt and SFS/SCG because I look forward to supporting our team. For me, I'd give up convenience for the option of playing all our games at the one ground which is sort of in the middle and given Concord is the closest there is at the moment then should the funding ever be available, it would be worth the travel.

It is actually "If you build it ,He will come "

Good idea though ,get them to wear Wests colours one week and Balmain the next and I think most on here will be sold on that one

Panania would be even better as a central location (for me). Correct Happy, but the chances of anything being built are longer than revamping Concord, neither are likely to happen the way it looks.

hey GNR, i dont play dumb, truthfully speaking, i must admit admit i do and say some dumb things from time to time, but im thinking to form a new identity and keep parts of our old identity. But its time to transcend ourselves, we're like an old fossil, or some fossils that wont let go. if it doesnt happen now, it will happen one day, its inevitable, we just wont be there to see it. Just wish it happens in our lifetime - thats all.

A new stadium without state funding is impossible - that leaves revamping Leichhardt, Concord or Campbelltown - Leichhardt and Concord are great grounds for watching football but both are limited by space to say build a 25 to 30 thousand seat stadium plus have few otions re parking - Campbelltown has plenty of potential to turn in to a top class stadium, plenty of parking but as has been pointed out on here so many times is a long way away from at least half of our fan base - its the perennial dilemma.
However i do think that for WT to progress to the next level as a super club a single home ground is a necessity. Personally, because i don't live in Sydney and only get to the occasional game i would be pouring the money in to Campbelltown - only because it would be the most viable option and would virtually tie up the Mccarthur region as WT territory. With GWS moving in the NRL may even be inclined to help with such a project.
Having said all that i think the possibility of a WT Stadium happening in the near future is zero.

you're probably right, not in our lifetime, but it will happen i'm sure, however i must say i feel like a gypsy travelling to ALL our HOMEGROUNDS. Only the wests tigers.

however the saddest part is - if they did build it im sure they would come in droves.

It's a romantic notion AHX, and I like it. But, unfortunately, we'd have to grow a few money trees to make it happen. I would not expect public money to fund this.

Depends on how the game grows over the next ten to twenty years I guess.

As I understand it membership is the beast that created weekly crowds of 50,000 plus in the AFL . I think that as membership ( and the regular attendance to matches which accompanies it ) grows , NRL teams in general are going to out grow suburbans stadiums .

Campbelltown stadium has the space to build new larger stands at the ends of the ground I could imagine that in the future it accommodate 30-40 thousand spectators , as for liechardt it would need a complete redevelopment . I can't see the club ever abandoning either one of those grounds . Nor should they . I think regular crowds of 30k are
Less then 10 years away .
