Improvements

Obviously I don't expect Cleary to perform a miracle and get us to win this game. But there are things he can start improving. Firstly, our right side defense. It was terrible against the Dragons, he needs to fix that up before we can start winning. Next, our attack. We were scoring points last year so we're not useless. Lastly, he needs to help Teddy get his form back.

There are things he can't fix straight away like, our forward pack, our structures or our depth. But the other things I listed can be and need to be improved in the coming weeks, starting with the Cowboys this week.

This game comes too soon to make any real strong adjustments tactically you would think.

The biggest adjustment needed is the attitude of the players. I expected a far more energetic display this week.

However it still won't be enough against NQ. They are just miles better then us.

Possibly, but in the coming weeks these improvements will need to be made.

Every game is a two horse race.
The biggest thing we lack is mental application and a tough attitude. We've seen our mob turn that on and off over the years, hopefully they get it right for this one.

I disagree that we have severe technical flaws all over the park. The same cattle have each shown themselves individually capable at some stage. If they want to be here, they will have to earn it or Ivan will just go shopping.

The reason we lose in so many different ways is that we have lost the desire it takes to win.

We're making a lot of errors at crucial parts in the game. But I agree that it looks like Ivan's not going to cop bad performances from the players. I liked what Cleary said about the 'big 4' needing to 'get on the bus.'

We need to start thinking about next year.Be good if the side can improve to 10-12 spo. but realistically we dont have the players and a new coach will tale awhile.

get rid of ten or so players and replqce th em with ten decent nrl standard players.

Trouble is WT lack on field leadership from people that can read the game, play what is front of them, and make smart high percentage plays. Not sure how you improve/fix that. WT sure do play some dumb football at the moment.

Your answer is in Geo's post of an article in the Big 4 thread.

Ivan's comments read true and he has in his short time already highlighted the biggest problem our team has. From that article i understood he believes we don't have mental strength when the going gets tuff and he said we don't play well as a team, we have individual moments but not collective and consistent moments - we fade in and out of games.

Didn't rubbish any one aspect of our game and he is right, we can defend when we want and we can attack when we want and as we all know more recently the want is missing.

Their are some good signs in this club that Ivan can work with - While our results haven't been their I personally think some key stats indicate and our play probably backs this up when looked at closely that we have a lot of good things but the bits that arent working are really bad.

Good
1\. We have actually made the 4th most meters of any team so far in 2017 despite haivng 4 losses.
2\. We are 2nd for tackle breaks
3\. We are 1st in the comp for offloads
4\. We are 4th for Kick Return meters
5\. We are 2nd for dummy half runs meaning players are keen to get into dummy half and make an effort
6\. We have given up the 3rd least amount of penalties (indicating perhaps we need to give away some more on our line to help our defence)
7\. Only 4 teams have had as much possession over the 5 games
8\. We have played the 3 favourites for the comp which we would always have expected to loose anyway

Bad
1\. We have missed the most tackles of any team in the comp
2\. We have equal 2nd most erros of any team (interestingly Penrith have more and Roosters the same)
3\. We are 13th for line breaks
4\. 2nd last for try assists
5\. We have given up more tries then any other team

So what we are doing well is getting down the other end of the field into the opposition 20 really well.

The problems are that when we get their we just aren't converting the possession into points through errors, poor kicking and just poor playmaking which comes down to the halves and hooker. On the defencie side where we have really struggled is on the edges. I know we have had a couple of moments in the middle but its the structure that is leaving unmarked wingers that has really hurt us.

If he can change up the defensive structure on the edges (and how that eminates from the middle) and bring some confidence to the attack I don't think we are too far away

We are ranked 16th in attack, and 16th in defence, we have scored the least points and let in the most, so the only way is up, and a lot of that is attitude.

Well done, good post.

Nice to see good / bad laid out before you like that. Thanks BB2

The way our attack is 3/4s of the team will be doing nudie runs at the end of the season

Sorry to trivialise but bring them up here for the Nude Bicycle Ride ever year and they will feel well at home. The trouble is they may avoid scoring to score the ride.

don't look too close at me in there - I will paint Tigers colours next year
