INTEGRITY UNIT?!?

**Integrity unit**

What is everyone’s opinion on this body that oversees player behaviour in the game?

This body was setup by Dave Smith and his team,….whenever there is an incident involving an NRL player we always hear the Integrity Unit is investigating…

I for one can’t ever remember this body making its findings public, nor can I remember the Integrity Unit taking the lead in terms of player penalties or sanctions against a club?...I’m prepared to be reminded I’m wrong.

So this Integrity Unit is a toothless tiger in my view….In this Souths case the NRL is saying the Integrity Unit will reopen the Sutton/Burgess case as more information has come to hand….this suggests that Sutton/Souths withheld information in the first place…On this ground alone Sutton/Burgess should be suspended for between 3-6 months and Souths fined $200,000….but no…nothing will come out of this so called Integrity Unit….its just another body setup by Smith to suck money out of the game for little or no return!.

They may recommend penalties although I would suspect not. Their role would be to investigate and report (just the facts) and then Smith etc would review and allocate penalties.

Personally I like the fact that they have an internal unit which focus on this sort of stuff and not relying on club information.

NRL Intgerity Unit to reopen Souths investigation

The US bar incident involving South Sydney stars John Sutton and Luke Burgess has taken a fresh twist with the NRL's integrity unit announcing its investigation has been re-opened.

A spokesman said in a statement the unit had received new information which will now be probed.

Burgess, who has since joined Manly, and Sutton, who was axed as skipper last month, were arrested following a brawl with a bouncer at an Arizona night spot.

Both players were released without charge after the incident, which took place in November, but the NRL club only announced sketchy details of what happened last Sunday.

The NRL initially said they were satisfied the matter was closed but after more details emerged, decided to act.

It will put the NRL's incoming head of strategy Shane Richardson under scrutiny.

Richardson, who is leaving his posts as Souths' CEO to take on the new role later this month, has vehemently denied a cover-up.

If there was no cover up Shane , why it taken so long to hit the press

I don't think the NRL will have a choice but to go hard on these two with Richo's new role

I wonder how they will re-act with the issues at the Titans at the moment.

If they are serious, the players named, should not be able to play at all, until their matter is resolved in court.
