Have been wondering about this for a while so had a look at the match records for this year. Im guessing amount of interchanges allowed is still 8? (Please note all figures below are regulation interchanges, not counting HIAs or 'Free' interchanges from foul play)

RD01 v Raiders
Interchanges used : 7
Time of last interchange: 79:25 (roberts off for stefano)

RD02 v Roosters
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 66:22 (garner off for liddle)

RD03 v Knights
Interchanges used: 8
Time of last interchange: 72:55 (mikaele off for musgrove)

RD04 v Eels
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 68:31 (mikaele off for liddle)

RD05 v Cowboys
Interchanges used: 6 (!!!)
Time of last interchange: 68:33 (stefano off for musgrove)

RD06 v Rabbits
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 69:47 (stefano off for mikaele)

RD07 v Manly
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 73.38 (luciano off for stefano)

RD08 v Dragons
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 67:38 (seyfarth off for tamou)

RD09 v Titans
Interchanges used: 8
Time of last interchange: 76:47 (twal off for mikaele)

RD10 v Knights
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 68:34 (luciano off for garner)

RD11 v Warriors
Interchanges used: 7
Time of last interchange: 72:36 (simpkin off for liddle)

Granted im only really looking at the last interchange per match and not trawling through all interchanges. But theres a few questions to be raised here:

- Whats the gameplan involved with not using all interchanges here? Is it about keeping one up the sleeve in case of injury? Does the coaching staff think that after the first lot of second half interchanges are done, only one person needs to be removed/injected in the final minutes?

- During the rabbits game, i could tell at the time that if we just had some fresh impact off the bench in the final 15 we could have really done some damage in the final minutes, but we only brought on one man, and even going into golden point considering we had one sub up our sleeve, we didnt bring a fresh player on, whats with that?

- Only 6 interchanges in the cowboys game is baffling.. no idea what happened there. You could basically call the raiders game similar, no idea why they did a switch in the final minute.

- 5 times we've made our last sub in the final 8 minutes, only 1 of those games we won

- Tonight we left blore on the bench till the 65th minute, then only used him for a couple of runs

They need to get smarter. Hes been diabolical with his rotations in past years too. It does us no favours at all. Blame the players all you like... but what is the actual gameplan here

The interchange in the 79th minute v Canberra was because Roberts had stuffed his shoulder

Or his pec, or whatever his excuse is now.

yeh i had forgotten

so why were we just going to finish that game with only 6 subs?

Like everything that happens in the course of a game, all teams are limited or advantaged by their personnel, good bad or ordinary.
Wests Tigers are pretty limited still, in recovery and re-aligning its salary cap, from which all sound future teams can grow.
It's a killer to have to watch it week by week; we're all frustrated as fans to have to be patient in this necessary process - special shout out to Ex-Coach Cleary for the lopsided salary expenditure that more recently led us to Madge's draining of our cap swamp.

we have the most rigid, predictable bench rotation I have ever seen. you can set your watch to when Madge is going to roll out his starting forwards and bring them back on.

Using the Interchange bench is harder than it looks. You should treat the 8th change as a spare and not use it until the 70th minute or you could be left with seriously injured players and no interchanges to swap them. Feel free to use this as a template to show how you would do it better. My bench had Simpkin, Mikaele and 2 unnamed middle forwards

Interchange #1 - 20 min - Tamou off / 15 on
Interchange #2 - 20 min - Ofahengaue off / 16 on (Twal moves to lock)
Interchange #3 - 20 min - Liddle off / 14 (Simpkin) on
Interchange #4 - 50 min - Twal off / Mikaele on
Interchange #5 - 60 min - 16 off / Tamou on
Interchange #6 - 60 min - 15 off / Ofahengaue on
Interchange #7 - 60 min - 14 (Simpkin) off / Liddle on
Interchange #8 - 70 min - reserved for injury or 70th min. Tired forward off / Twal on

Tamou = 40 min
Ofahengaue = 40 min
15 = 40 min
16 = 40 min
Mikaele = 30 min (higher work rate over a shorter time)
Twal = 50-60 min
Liddle = 40 min
Simpkin = 40 min

yeh if only they did something like this.. tbh looking at the match reports its super random how and when he brings people on. Rarely a double sub and never a triple sub

The players probably know the rough plan and signal when they are ready.

With 7 usable interchanges you can't have 4 players start, have a rest and then come back on.

If you are using 2 hookers you lose a lot of flexibility.

It looks like Mikaele is doing 25-30 minutes at the end which also saves an interchange and seems to be working well.

I don’t know if a predetermined interchange game plan would work most times? The flow of the game would dictate plenty of the changes wouldn’t it? Some changes would be reactionary, to shore up a weakness or increase a threat?

Can't we get special dispensation from the NRL to just play all 17 at the same time, but I suppose opposition teams would still be able to create an overlap.

We could start Noffa in the middle and see if he runs to the wing

Noffo looks like a natural centre, he was defending inside Doueihi for one of the Warriors tries on the weekend.

Should just put a winger outside Noffo to see if it sorts out our right side defense, it's just a shame we don't have any wingers.

It depends on everything

Scoreline ...how many fans are booing at that exact moment ....how hot the showers are at away games ..... who has to stop Packer leaving the game early

It's very complex seriously ...winning .....losing chasing a big deficit .....HIA's .....day game ..night game etc etc etc

you forgot the flavour of the popsicles at half time, usually a massive contributor as well

get them some strawberry milkshakes

Forget about the strawberry milkshakes, these clowns need to go to the Korova Milk Bar for a Moloko to get them up for the second half.

Every game is different ..you can't assume you can go into any game with a set plan for your interchange

It seems like Madge has already given up on this season and is using the games as practice. The time a player spends on the field is only so they can gain experience within a specific role.

Was Talau auditioning for a role in a comedy?

Cue the Benny Hill music, but forget about the pat on the back of the head, that will get you 10 in the bin or a send off if it is deemed that there was intent.

In any case, "It's on Report!"

I agree totally, just not sure if we can get V'landys on board.

A pat on the head would cause concussion nowadays apparently.
