Is it just me or?

There have been pros and cons, mostly the former, but he's been here 5 mins in CEO terms so let's wait and see. Hopefully the good times roll on soon.
I didn't agree with the Taupau release, but now with ET on board I can see their MO.

Interesting that these guys a re-signing with the club which is run like garbage, with a dum coach and with massive unrest in the ranks.

Or maybe that stuff the media writes about the team isn't true…...

For one year hardly encouraging. Most clubs have players sign long term deals with increases linked to the salary cap. we don't have anyone that will commit to us long term.

Not that many long-term deals being done at the moment. The cap details for 2018+ are sketchy to say the least, so clubs are erring on the side of caution for the most part. There's obviously exceptions to the rule, but not too many.

…- The plan is clear, all of our players come off contract next year which puts our salary cap in a great position to approach the open market.

2017 is meant to be a big recruitment year and I want to be optimistic like you, so fingers crossed.

But just to temper expectations, remember that we have heard all this before. Cos when the silly-season approaches our management get gun-shy and us fans once again have to mask our disappointment with romantic notions that we can turn average home grown players into a team of champions. We are professionals at that!
As such, I hope Pascoe does not re-sign too many players and instead recruits some established guns. If we pay overs then so be it. If we sign three players and one is a dud then so be it. I could wear that. At least we would be showing intent.

There is just no room for sentiment in today's game.

While I was initially gutted about losing Taupau, in hindsight it's allowed us to get Grant and ET, along with a few other random signings, which have bolstered our team more than one player could have so I'm happy with that.

Taupau "Austin'd" the tigers.

"Austin" - definition - "To use the Wests Tigers to get your first grade career back on track before heading on to a larger money deal or more reputable club"

It's in the Oxford Dictionary, look it up.

Thats called a Prince…

I've been saying forever you can't rely solely on juniors, despite everyone else falling for the romanticism of having a team full of home grown players. It doesn't work, no club is successful if they don't recruit well. In 05 we had juniors, but we had them perfectly balanced with guys we'd recruited the yr before. Even the Panthers in 03, another team full of local juniors had recruited well with players like Preston, Sattler and Lang. I really hope the club is moving away from this hopeless concept and has a vision of being big players on the open market once the cap allows us to be. Keep our best juniors and throw the leftovers out with the rubbish. Simple.

fwiw, i see a lot of similarities between this side and the side in 03\. Competitive, and can win a few games, but need to plug a few holes with new recruits to take us that extra step. One that we will take if and when we recruit well.

I hate to bring it up as many think that having a clean sheet at the end of 2017 is going to be the answers to all our problems. But keep in mind , the fact that we will have increased money available , is great, but so will every other club in the NRL. Why would anything change, all that will happen is that the players will be that much more costly to sign.
A lot of players will be becoming free agents at the same time, but, there is nothing to say that more will come here, (Unless We Pay Overs) , . If that happens we still won't be able to afford the tall Poppies, and ( hopefully not) we will still be signing the scraps. And a lot of our current players . may be looking at better offers as well
There's not going to be a cosmic shift that will make us all of a sudden, attractive to players.
Whether we like it or not, clubs like ours have to pay overs to players to come here, and unless we do that we don't get the cream. We are not one of the beachside teams , so we don't have location to attract them either
I wish it was different, but I can't see that it will be easier to get better players than it has always been, it's just that they'll be paid more.

The stupid situation that exists for us is that we'll be paying out so much on overpaid, and underperforming players in , at least Two positions. ( And it's not their fault) Whereas , just think what we could get , by keeping( probably too late now) one of the halves , and use a steadier partner like Drinkwater . or the other nsw cup half guy, or , preferably , Rankin or Lawrence as a partner for Brooks or Moses.
Those guys with the exception of Chris, wouldn't be on huge money, and would free up a lot of money to use on a top class second rower or Centre

Big Sirro I Just noticed that somehow your post is showing as being the the first bit of mineI . Apologies for that , but I'm not sure how I managed that. If I knew how to change it I would, Sorry

If 2017 is our buying year can we buy someone who can kick goals at 85+% ? Sick of losing games on goal kicks .
Off the top of my head I don't have any names but there' would be some around in the lower grades ready to be discovered like Kerrod Holland has been this year for the Dogs .

The three players you name just prove my point they are all on bloody big contracts, that's what it took to get them, look what it's cost Parra. The only way we'll get players like that is to pay overs.
That's unless. as Russ said, they don't like beachside suburbs .
