Is Madge delusional?

As a coach he just can't give up, it's not the right mentality even if we all know the side is cooked.

There are two approaches he can take:

1. Finals still mathematically possible..full steam ahead. Same old lines and 'we believe we are better than the ladder suggests' crap.

2. Step back and reassess...look at the bigger picture. See 2021 and experiment, exactly like Penrith did at the back of end 2019.

Try different combos...AD to 6...see if Madden has any future. Leave out the vets and make the younger players learn to lead.

Penrith are reaping the rewards and I personally wish Madge would do the same.

He’s not delusional, he’s a good coach but he couldn’t lie straight in bed - some of his team critiques are not honest and he basically says what people want to hear - behind the scenes he is sharpening the axe and the dead wood will be moved on but I think he should say want he is thinking, we need to know the direction we are heading - the smoke and mirrors illusion show is not working, sideshow alley is defunct.

Yeah but Ivan did it well before the end of the year. Probably about mid way through. ‘Mathematically they were a chance until round 20’ but Ivan took that tack extremely early on.
We’ve missed the boat with 5 weeks to go.

Any money Chris and Marshall see our the year. Marshall either retires end of or moves to another club.

You think he’s gonna come out and say they’re done and that his team isn’t good enough? That’s the last thing you do as a coach. Deep down he knows the squad isn’t good enough and that’s why he’s trying to boot the rubbish and sign better players

Yes, as much as I detest Cleary, he made a huge call to change their plays and move new guys into key positions early. They suffered the back end of 2019, but it has proved to be the 100% right move now and for the next few years.

It will be interesting to see if we trot out Marshall / Lawrence / Huth and co once we are mathematically eliminated as all will be wasting opportunities to see what we have for 2021. Knowing us, we will turn the last month into a farewell tour for Marshall / Lawrence and pick them every week.

Ok. So we suspect that all off contract players won’t be resigned.
McQueen
Eisenhuth ?
Taylor
McIntrye ?
Seyfarth
Jennings
Marshall ?

To name the prominent ones.

Now with these players clearly not excelling in our team they are likely to be odds on not much to be attractive to other teams and will struggle to continue their careers on anything near to their existing salaries let alone in the NRL.

Most will be picking up min to 200k contracts at other teams, even the bad 2020 teams.

What does that say for their tactics of sticking around?

Could it hopefully paint a picture of an unfavourable outcome for Josh Reynolds and Russell Packer if they decide to pick up their pay with us next year?

The signs are good that Jrey will be heading to ESL where he can extend his career and be on good coin add Jrey to the list and we are a completely different side

Is next week the week then? Next weeks loss means no more chances right?

Yeah with 4 weeks to go we will jump onboard the fairwell wagon. Marshall hopefully announces his finishing up with the club after next weeks game.

I mean frankly we were out of the finals race the minute we lost to the rabbitohs.

I couldn’t cop this we are competitive yada yada, that was the game we needed to win, we were on an even kilt with them and just didn’t turn up.

Since that game we’ve dished up under enthused performances minus our best performance of the year vs the wooden spooners.

It would be nice if Russell Packer could head over as well. But they say with his Crim Record he can’t get a visa. Is Catalans out of the picture though? I could just imagine Packer would want to add Fluent in French to his impressive academic record.

He is more delusional with the squads he has been picking
Also having our team play ‘defensive’ football
The best we looked last night was when we threw the ball around

Freddy just said on the footy show: Madges trade Mark was steely defense sarcastically. Where has our good defense gone.

As much as we would like him to come out and say half my team are potatoes it just can't happen.
Has to tow the party line

I take all these press conferences with a grain of salt

I have said it before, when JRey is in the halves with Brooks the team looks far better, the centres get ball and we become a go forward team...
The old adage when I was playing.give the ball some air and let your speedy players run onto the ball with good momentum...but thats just me...

I think he is not helping his cause when he makes statements like this, agree he has to remain upbeat and state mathematical we can still make it but if means winning every game.

His selections this season have to ?, think he is a good coach but players we have are not a top 8 team, personally I don’t listen to much what he states anymore, results count,

Prior post latter points is spot on.
Think of next season now.

I'd prefer him to be honest, maybe the players might try to prove him wrong.

I would have walked into the sheds shook everyone's hand and thanked them for the season just to see their reaction.
