Is Taylor trying to move away from our junior talent ??

Was just looking at the list of our latest debutants and 11 of the last 12 players to make their debuts aren't Wests Tigers juniors

JJ Felise is the only one to break that list of 12

Has Taylor and the club done this for a reason because he doesn't rate a lot of our juniors and is trying to break the past cultures of the club or is there others reasons behind this ??

Given 8 of the 9 immediately before that were Tigers juniors I think he's probably just trying to balance out junior talent with experience. A lot of the recent junior talent has failed to fire when given the opportunity and we've moved quite a few of them on - Liolevave, Hoeter, Santi, Seve (not that he ever got a crack). Hopefully the next batch with Felise, Tatola, Marsters etc can make it in first grade. I doubt he has a set against junior talent, he probably just thinks that during these recent lean years we've been relying on it too much and just expecting that guys tearing up the 20's will immediately start doing the same in first grade.
 
Hard question to answer as the past salary cap management and bad recruitment decisions meant we couldn't afford the quality players we need to supplement the local talent and if you believe what Tiger Torch said about 50% of local players had to be selected. Common sense says you need a blend of both so if you look at the players recruited this year and their contribution , especially the likes of Grant, ET and to a lesser extent Rankin, JAC and Ballin you would say it's a strategic shift based on better cap management and a shift in Board / Stake holder mentality. Will be very interesting to see what happens with the changes in shareholding.
 
Need to mix junior talent with outside experience, watching a replay of Hull KR v Hull and Gareth Ellis is playing for the black and whites, reminds of a good example of blending good outside experience with our juniors particularly when he played with us. It is a pity that some of our talented juniors left though eg Brown to Souths and Martin to Penrith.
 
The last few years juniors was our only recruitment policy.
Meyer thought this was the easy way ,but we announced it to everyone and the price of our juniors sky rocketed.managers new they could bump up the price because we painted ourselves in a corner.

We now have management that sees you can get good value from experienced players to strengthen a roster.
 
Someone has to do the percentages of juniors that the club has brought through and have been regular 1 st graders this would be an indication whether this practice is worth while ..the use of a lot of junior talent is also an indication of a club being financially under the pump .As already noted it is a balance of the two that works best ,IMO it is the right thing the club promotes the use of local junior talent but unfortunately this will become less of a priority for clubs as the instant success senario will rule this and buy a premiership will dictate.
 
Who cares where the players come from.but Taylor has to be given some credit .we are finally starting to strengthen a few positions ..once Farah is moved on then we can buy two quality centres and some front rowers and we will be a force .young sirro is a junior ,and look how inept he looks especially after we signed ET ,,,,

Relying solely on juniors is ridiculous for a professional organisation. JT might not be a great coach..which he certainly isnt…but he has some skill in identifying talent and implementing change management. He has the wrong job at this club.

You wonder how he would go in Mark O'Neills role. He gets a lot of things right. I think he gets game plans wrong and possibly his people management skills are poor although I'm guessing this point. I'm hopeful he starts getting the game plans and tactics right. I think he has improved but that is mostly on utilising ET well.
 
Yeah I think the ET situation is a bit of both.. i.e. he got lucky and was quick enough to take advantage of it. ET has been used superbly the past 2 games after being very solid in his debut.

I stand by my remarks that only Teddy and Rowdy have improved under Taylor, yet he uses new recruits perfectly. That tells me his strength isn't developing good players, more so he knows how to use established talent. So yes he should have O'Neil's job as I believe he and the club may thrive with him in that role.

If the talent is good enough they will develop… I think the WT overplayed the hype surrounding the class of 2011-12... Few have realised their potential... Watch Sirro fade to nothing at Manly
