Israel Folau? (No rumours yet)

These days you can't tell real news from fake news, but for what it's worth; Folau would be the club's biggest signing ever. Without a doubt.
He is absolutely top class. Any league team would salivate.

For those who don't remember or were too young, Folau was the most exciting back in the NRL. Incredible speed, step, pace, power and amazing under the high ball (he's even better now).
For those who do remember (and go further back), he was like a leaner Meninga.

If he had stayed in league we would arguably be talking of him now as already in that class of greatest players of this era.
Top top echelon. And he is still only just 28.

I would go as far saying that the signing of Folau would arguably be of greater significance than that which was placed on the re-signing of Tedesco. But that's maybe another discussion.

I so want this rumour to be true, but it must be far-fetched, if for no other reason that just because it would be so mind-blowingly amazing.
If this is fake news, then it is nice to dream.

Agree with all you wrote …... but gee the possibility is far fetched for many reasons.

We could get Gordon at pension rates, would love a fullback who has 3/4 years in him and not 6 months

No doubt Gordon would be handy…but dude, you could sign Folau to a 4 year contract and he would still be younger then than Gordon is now...

😕

Don't need another million dollar + player.

Buy three good players for one Folau.

He wouldn't cost a million plus on the cap. The NRL would chip in with concessions to bring him back and arrange a number of guaranteed TPA's outside the cap limit to help it happen. You could probably get him for $700k on the cap and the NRL arrange the rest.

Marketing wise he would make back that money ten-fold for whoever gets him. He'd be the biggest name coming into a club. He's a cleanskin and an amazing all round athlete.

Parra only failed at getting him a few years ago because they wanted him on the cap for $250k or something ridiculous like that.

Make it happen Tigers! Would be the biggest signing ever for us.

If we can get him for 700k, imagine how cheap he would be for Chooks, Broncs and Dogs.

I agree with your sentiments on signing him. No complaints if we spent a million as we appear to have plenty of cap space left.

If we signed Folau that would be the greatest 'up yours' to Tedesco.
I'm all for it. We need x-factor in our back line.
Yes it does seem a bit out there but it won't stop me hoping.

That's my point, everyone on here wants to chase guys who are 33/34 years of age who are just about to retire

It's not completely far fetched. MMM Supergrass wouldn't have pulled this news out of a hat, there would've been some speculation from somewhere. Especially to mention the Tigers and no other clubs.
I'm sure all of us are hoping and crossing our fingers!

Folau will stay in union.
He plays far less games for pretty good money

Now I do have hope….the 'catch cry' of the modern athlete..'It's never ever ever about the money'...

No thanks, would rather Hayne

Bugger that. He cares less than Moses at twice the price.

Totally agree on this one Stryker. I am so over players who are only about themselves!

I know it isn't ideal but if we can't find the perfect fit for fullback in '18 I would sign Gordon on a 1yr contract. I know he is old, and past his best, but has experience that we will be needing, kicks goals and still plays with 100% heart. He knows his time is coming to an end and is making the most of it. I watched him live in the City v Country game and he sold me. On the day he was several times the player that Connor Watson is, for example and Gordon plays like that week-in, week-out.

Then we can look for the perfect fit full-back in the meantime.

Far less games??? The guy gets flogged to death, thats why he has slowed down. You think of it, they start super rugby early Feb that runs through to about mid June. Than they play the three nation test series, than they host at least one touring team in a three test series, than they play the All Blacks, have a rest than head over to the Northern hemisphere for 6 weeks playing a heap of games come home have about 6 weeks off and start again. It also not like they travel once a year to NZ and Townsville, they spend 1/2 the year in a A380.

I would love him, but can not see us even getting close to the money required, but he may just take unders to avoid all the travel and play NRL again

I am not an expert of anything union but I took a quick look at the Super Rugby 2017 season draw and the internationals for the wallabies.

17 games in the regular Super Rugby season and 11 internationals
Wow, a staggering 28 games. You are right, they are being flogged to death, lol.

Yeah I wouldn't mind Gordon for a year or two to give us time to find the right fit either. He is a damn good fullback and is playing well this season. Or someone like Hopoate would be a good fill in also, he could then move onto wing or centre if we ended securing a better fullback. I will be disappointed if Lolohea ends up being Tedesco's permanent replacement, tbh.

The signing of Israel Folau would be a real boon to the Tigers. He is a legitimate star and would be lift the club's profile and credibility enormously. I really hope a conversation has started between the two parties.

If the Tigers sign Folau, Hayne et al, they will undo the good recruiting work they have achieved the past couple of weeks.
Signing these big money players will see the club cut its own throat. We require a roster of 30 good players at a minimum, not a superstar, a few top liners, a dozen good players, some young up and comers and a half dozen plodders.

I believe Folau would be much more value than Hayne. To win, you need one ore two elite play makers supported by a group of solid tradesmen.

100% Disagree.
We need a superstar.

Thinking like yours will see us remain outside the top 8 and further condemn our profile, ie to remain whipping boys with an inferiority complex.
The top teams don't suffer mediocrity, and neither should we. Let's start acting like them, shoot for the stars! and once and for all shed this embarrassing image.
