Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

If you ask me I believe Gus is the failure at Penrith
Brings in Ivan and sacks him
Brings in Griffin and sacks him 4 weeks out from the finals
Gus has made these decisions and none have worked out for him
He is desperate to keep Nathan so he goes after Ivan again
In desperation
I think Gus might have been told by the board you have till the end of next year to win a premiership or get a tap on the shoulder

The obsession with coaching his son is all starting to get a bit over the top from where I stand.
It seems more important to him than anything else and looks like it is clouding his judgement. There is plenty of time for him to coach his son and Nathan seems to be going along fine without him.
Might be time to cut the Clearys loose and get someone whose priorities are about our club and team first.

Starting to feel the same way

I have a bad feeling about this - I'll be soooo pee'd off if Ivan walks out on us. I have backed him every time on this forum - I have shown faith and trusted in him and believed that he was an honourable guy with a vision for our future. So if he leaves my faith in human nature will be crushed.

The temptation for him to go is strong - I am sure his family situation means more to him than anything else and maybe a return to the Panthers, with Gus having to say he was wrong in sacking him, is also vindication for him and proves something in his mind. Gus is even saying he will take a backseat now that Griffin is gone.
Perhaps for Ivan the loss of integrity is worth it - lets face it, in the NRL loss of integrity lasts 5 minutes and then everyone just forgets it, especially if you have success. Look at how many players do appalling things and within no time they are welcomed back with open arms and everything is forgotten. Maybe Ivan is willing to take it on the chin for all that there is to gain. It is a great opportunity he is being offered - a chance to have everything he has always wanted.

People on the first few pages though said this couldn’t happen though ? Take your Tigersgoggles off !!!

One was prepared to bet his house

To be fair it hasn't happened yet as far as I know… But I've seen enough in this game recently to never say never

Yep I’m packing up my stuff lol. The silence is deafening, he’s as good as gone to me the longer this drags on.

For the first time in probably 50 years my interest in the NRL has dropped a tad. The game has become predictable and the so called level playing field resembles the topography you find in Nepal, but this will take the cake if Cleary walks. As fans we are asked to dig deep and show loyalty, get on the bus and be part of it.
Of course I will be a supporter for life, but my membership will go

Yep, if he goes (and I can't believe he would) that's it for Rugby League and me.

Regardless of the outcome, I am seriously pi55ed that another club like Penrith just waltzes in and entices someone to break a contract, especially the coach.

That is the lowest of low in my book.

You are talking about a serial grub…gus gould
Ive stated here im not a cleary fan anyway but this whole process stinks in my opinion....one upside if he does dog us wayne bennett might be avaliable

So whats the upside?

I’m just really pissed that Penrith’s dramas have somehow become ours! If Gould wants to derail his club’s promising season fine, but leave us the hell out of it!

Just like clubs can’t approach players who are contracted till a certain time period, why are the panthers allowed to entice a contracted nrl coach to break his contract. If the NRL has any integrity it will step in here.

I agree….I will also go to leichhardt oval and chuck my membership over the fence....
But that is worst case scenario.....

Gotta acknowledge Gus’ tactics here,:
Building block;
He came out last week and talked up the importance of the father & son relationship of Ivan and Nathan.
Curve ball;
He then stated that he would grant Nathan a release to join his father at the Tigers, thus blindsiding the tigers and fans.
Knife attack;
While we’ve been rejoicing in the streets over Gus’ reunion comments he initiates his master plan to lure his father to the panthers, thus allievating any decision on Nathan’s part.

I don’t think Ivan is that dumb, Gould does not want Ivan but it’s the shortcut to securing Nathan long term.

Agree…
We were plodding along quite nicely with no dramas !

People on the first few pages though said this couldn’t happen though ? Take your Tigersgoggles off !!!

Putting club loyalties aside and just look at it from an outsiders POV'
IF Ivan is being targeted, he in a perfect place to see whether he should want to bring his son here ,or, would he rather join him at Panthers
Hes in the know ( or more than us anyway)about our chances of attracting better players to the club next year, or we still be getting to what we have got now?

If we cant get some class attacking players, , next year will still be about where we are now.
We bleat on about integrity, and loyalty when it suits us, but if it was us stealing a Coach from another club, we would be turning cartwheels,

I havent got a clue if Cleary would go, if asked, but its a business.
Players leave whenever they want,
Clubs dump people on contracts all the time if it suits,( as we are well aware).
Coaches are no different.

As much as I hope that Cleary is staying here, if he takes this opportunity to coach Nathan , and have better players around him,(and they seem to have an endless supply of them) i wouldn't bear any grudges, about it.
The chance may not come up again

Good post

I don’t care now but feel disappointed that our squeaky clean coach sold his soul to the devil by meeting Panthers management (as reported) a few ago … it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that Listerine will not mask

My guess

Ivan will talk to the club about an upgrade.
Ivan will talk to Nathan and say, Im prepared to come over there if you are not prepared to come over here.

I think he will stay, get an upgrade and his son will come

Keep dreaming, only one way this ends with Ivan's chair spinning or the bus left running at the side of the road, either or.

To be fair, Tigers have the advantage here. If we dig in and don't release IC, Penrith need to sign a head coach before 2019 kicks off. We have no such problem. The minute Penrith signs someone, then IC has no options, assuming his drive is to coach NC.

Theyll just go with the one they have as a caretaker, from all reports hes a bit like the Rabbits new coach, and seems to
have a lot of support from those that matter, especially as he has a much better relationship with the players.

Actually , I wouldnt be surprised if Barrett is part of the deal, Gus has a high opinion of him,

Ivan hates Gus. I'm told there's zero chance of him going back to Penrith. Won't happen.

When did you get this info Yoss?

Any chance you can find out the lateat from your source?

Someone who I believe knows about such things. I was told Ciraldo is strongly supported and that Cleary was basically no chance. I don't know what goes on in Gould's head though.

One of these decades we will be the club that everyone hates for poaching other people’s gun players…...
But probably not...

I think Ivan will stay and continue his job in building the Tigers, part of that rebuild will include Nathan, no problems as long as our board stays firm and we buy intelligently over the next 2 seasons

Ivan has board backing to recruit who he needs at the Tigers, at the panthers he will need to go on bender knee to Gus
