Jake Mullaney

Please give him a crack WT. He was the best player for the NSW cup side on Wednesday night (even though they got thrashed). Dudes a try scoring machine. He still holds the record for top point scorer in NYC history. He might not be massive but he's been going well in NSW cup so far and he is lightning. Before he gets completely skipped over and Tedesco usurps him he needs a run.

How did that game go - I haven't heard any details of it ? What was the score and other then Mullaney who were the standouts - anyone seen any media reports of the game

I agree. Sheensy has had plenty of chances to play him though with McKinnon's dodgy hammy. I have no idea why he hasn't at least had a shot.

Surely NYC top point scorer is enough to earn at least 1 crack at first grade.

32-6 was the score to Queensland.

Mullaney scored the only NSW try from inside his own half.

I've been often quoted on here bagging out the guy for his defense and his size, but its becoming more and more clear to me he is going to be a wasted opportunity if he doesn't get a run soon.

But where do you play him? We already have enough defensive liabilities in our team.

Fullback. He can't be any worse defensively than our other fullback options and if the front line defense does their job he only has to worry about kicks. Dude can handle attacking kicks positionally, he might be suspect under the high ball though.

If he doesn't get a go soon, another club will take him off our hands quick smart.

This becomes a real delicate line to balance.

Mckinnon is gone in 2012.

Are we signing Dugan? if yes, then he should be 2012 fullback?

Is Moltzen Staying? If yes, then he will be our 2012 fullback whether we like it or not.

With that in mind is Beau Staying? If yes, then he will probably be our fullback

With THAT in mind, Is Mitch Brown re-signing? If yes, then he will prob be our 2012 fullback

If we answer NO to all these questions above, then Mullaney will probably be our Fullback in 2012 by default.

That is a LOT of Hurdles for the kid to jump through, and I honestly wouldn't blame him if he said "Stuff this" and found another club.

Mullaney is better than Ryan, Brown and Moltzen and should be ahead of them in the pecking order. He should be our first option for 2012 at this stage.

I dont know if Mullaney is good enough for 1st grade or not? but how will we know if he never gets a go there. We have had a few plat there & fail so why not give the kid a go before the season ends.

Size and defense is overrated in a fullback. It's not a position where it's needed. Acceleration, support, positioning and speed are far more important and Mullaney has those qualities in bucket loads.

Look how good Preston has been over the years.

He deserves to be the back on the bench. He can cover fullback and halves. Then we can see how he goes…

I would not have Beau Ryan anywhere near fullback. He is not naturally gifted enough, and fullback is a reflex position. None of the options listed by Underdog really excite me.....what next?

Being at the game I can tell you mullaney made alot of errors. He did one good thing.

Don't think he is our best option.

Some other players in that side must have made some errors as well, considering the scoreline.

But that's ok. Blame Mullaney, the best attacking/try scoring player at the club.

Let me tell you he is streets ahead of McKinnon, Moltzen and Brown.

I fail to see why he isn't given a go. It is obviously a problem position for us.

You would really describe Mullaney as "the best attacking/try scoring player at the club"?? Surely you mean Balmain Ryde and not WT…..we do have one B Marshall who goes ok in that department.

Their are plenty of small fullbacks running around that have defensive problems. I would rather have a no1 that can run like the wind and score a try that is a little shaky in defense than a fullback that runs the hundred in a fraction over 20 seconds but is good defensively

Get over it. Mullaney obviously isn't in the coach's plan for first grade this year so move on…
..
It seems every week someone wants to start a new topic about the same topic......
..
Move on and stop all the bloody whinging you bunch of sooks

I wonder why sheens doesn't use Brown like that?

Safe defensively,

Fast,

Solid build.

Needs to learn how to be a support player -(something ive said before, Mckinnon can teach him on his way out) but apart from that he'd be the ideal fullback for us, surely.
