QUEUE FOR MALONEY

SOUTHS won't have it all their own way when it comes to the chase for Warriors playmaker James Maloney, who yesterday announced he would return to an Australian NRL side at the end of next season - the Tigers have made it clear they want him to replace Robert Lui, despite Tim Moltzen staying with the aim of playing halfback. Penrith supremo Phil Gould can't hide his admiration for Maloney although he tweeted yesterday that the Panthers would ''concentrate on juniors and development at this stage''. And the Roosters are still looking for a long-term replacement for Todd Carney, despite signing Eels cast-off Daniel Mortimer.

Yes please.
Think he and Benji would compliment each other well. I think two players with similar attributes dont work as well as two that are more opposite than alike.

Should be a good idea. Originally I didn't think the Tigers would be interested because of Miller and Siro coming through but Maloney and Marshall would be an exciting combination

He would be a sensational acquisition. Good player.

He also has some connection with Wests. His father played first grade for Campbelltown Collegians in the 70's.

Solid player with a calm head on his shoulders. Would be the perfect partner for Benji.

I'd like to see Miller given a shot first to prove himself before we fritter away $400-$500K though. If Miller shows promise would could resign him for a fraction of what Maloney would be commanding and have the cash to spend elsewhere and bump up Miller as he progresses.

I think I'm with you Bogan Yes we have to give the half back for 2012 the entire season to see what he can do to secure the position . Which person we will see in the 7 jersey is the real question though
If it works and we perform well we won't need another 7 and will save a lot of money .

Pretty pumped about this potential signing. Good kicking game, a steady head and makes good decisions. Would bring out the best in Benji.

Would be a good signing but I wouldn't be holding my breath about it.

Money reasons I'm guessing or something or someone else Smoking Gun ??

Not sure the club would risk losing Miller and Sirro at this stage of their careers. They definitely haven't developed as far as Maloney, but they are several years younger and the potential in both is clear to see and with age and experience they could end up being better. Easy to speculate right now, but at times the vision both players show is brilliant and if they don't play FG with the Tigers, it will be with another club.

as exciting as it is i cant imagine we would be able to match the money that someone like souths or penrith would offer him. dogs ill be after half and if foran follows hasler manly will aswell. he may want to come here for less money as playing at a strong club with benji would give him a great chance at playing origin. quality halves are few and far between, if sandow is getting $500k from parra then maloney must be worth $700k

The sacking of Lui, and Lote probably moving on after next season, there will be plenty of cash - plus there will be the new TV rights deal in effect.

The highest paid player in the NRL (either Slater or Lockyer) wouldn't be getting 700k. 600 maybe. Maloney would be worth around 300, if that. and btw sandow is getting 400k

I think we could probably afford him, I just get the feeling he wont come here.

I know its a gamble but i think we need to let Miller mature just a little and give him the opportunity - he looks the goods but he also looks young and inexperienced at times (which of course he is).

I'm not convinced on Maloney just yet. Terrific 2011, no doubt about it.

But there are plenty of young halves who have 1 breakout year and spend the rest of their career trying to live up to expectation. The danger signs will start ringing if he signs a big long term contract with someone like Souths.
