This afternoon I got a reply from Justin Pascoe by email that James Roberts is definitely in our top 30 squad for 2022 this is great news he will be awesome for us & hopefully prove many on this forum wrong & return to be one of the elite centres in the competition.

He looked disinterested and unfit last year, what makes you think hell be "awesome". Not being sarcastic, just interested in your opinion.

I didn't think he looked disinterested at all. There were many occasions when he went looking for the ball. But on the few occasions he actually did get it, he kind of blew. I think he's just not that good - although I want him to be. Why we didn't kick to open space for him to chase I don't understand. Why he wasn't given early ball made no sense either.

I think he was carrying an injury last year, but played because we had others sidelined...if fit he will certainly shake some of the opposition up...great guy for the young ones to build confidence up and he is looked up to by many in the squad....I give him a big chance for improvement this year, back to origin form would be great....

Haven't given up on the jet.

Not so long ago I thought he was one of the premier genuine centres out there.
He might only be one good ball away from getting his mojo back and becoming a cult figure. Waited all last year to see him run onto a good pass but he never got one.

Worth the risk.

He has a better opportunity to rediscover his form playing outside Hastings or Brooks, genuine ball players who can give him early ball at the right time. Jimmy is 29 in March, so he’ll need to work that little bit harder.

Asking about James Roberts in the top 30 was more important than asking about Stef’s re-signing?

Maybe because the media have indicated that James had been promoted to the top 30 and they wanted confirmation from the club. The club has already discussed they are hoping to extend Stef shortly. I would be annoyed if Pascoe answered a punters email about and ongoing negotiation.

A lot of people see Roberts as a good signing because he is on a low contract and is basically a low risk signing that could turn out a winner.

Personally I see him as a footballer who is in the twilight of his career and a shadow of the player he was once. Maybe ina very good side he could do a job, but not sure about our side. Love to see him prove my wrong, but can’t see it

It may be better if we signed our best decoy runner to play RC, he would be cheaper and faster!

No one said it was more important but Stefano is already with us for 2022 so it is a totally irrelevant statement dude

Maybe its just me, but Stefano would be higher on my list of priorities than Roberts.

Send Pascoe and email and find out.

Roberts was not on much money in 2021 and his efforts matched his salary.i doubt if this year will be any different.

I thought Roberts was on Big money. 600-700k.

He was on big money at Souffs but not with us.

I still fail to see, what he showed without playing footy that made us resign him, that he did with the footy that made us cut him. Waste of time, talent, roster spot and salary cap space.

Pretty sure with us he was only on about 150-250k.

Even less this year you’d think.

You’re right he was on about $150,000 last year with an option in the clubs favour for a second year. Minimal impact on our cap.

Not a lot of talent left on the market it makes sense as to why we kept him we do need more depth at Centre and he wouldn’t be taking up a huge part of the cap I just hope 22 is better for him than 21 was

Weststigers social media just advised updated contract status for 2022 and beyond and James Roberts was not on the list..
Interesting - Has anyone seen photos of him this week at training or he might be out for Covid

some pics from this week?
the jet taking off.

Not from this week, just an old photo from a couple weeks ago they’ve reposted.

Hopefully some new ones come soon.

Good bargain tbh. Best case he miraculously plays to his potential, worst case he plays for ressies and helps our young players.
