OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

I don’t think he is dumb mate ..or his agent
I never said he was dumb...mate....Do you think they showed him the real PNG?.of course not, red carpet all the way........When someone visits Sydney for the first time, they are shown the Harbour, Opera House, Blue Mountains and the best restaurants....and they say wow what a lovely city, I could live here....They are not shown a typical suburb and way of life..

Id like to think so Ink but I think they will be in constant contact with him
That would be highly unproffesional of Willie Peters and whoever the Footy GM is.
Id like to think theyd be respectful of us as we were when he was still at Penrith but signed on for us in late 23?
I reckon Riccios little " he can pick his own team" line was a bit of journalistic licence

Aussie citizens residing in Dubai don't have to pay income tax. The PNG gov has said that all players will not be liable for income tax. The tricky part will be if they dont follow the rules about "residing" in PNG. That's where the Aussie govt could be on the hook re changes in the tax law, unfair precedent etc..
On Fox last night they said they must reside in PNG , but when they come back to Australia they will not be taxed on what they have earned while in PNG . Labour government really looking after the poor Australians who can’t live with high energy costs and can’t feed there families due to high prices , but give players who already make a very good wage , a even bigger leg up , thus is disgustingly no in
I very much doubt Jarome will be thinking about PNG while hes still with us its not his go
i disagree , if u read the report from PNG it says that luai has been given control to bring players into the team on his say , so if that is true he will be talking to players all over the place , hope his head is locked in with the tigers

I'm fine with the contract. I think Richo did a great job to get Luai to the club at all.

I'm also fine with Luai leaving. I'm just hoping this doesn't derail our momentum.
I don't think it upsets momentum, the group are tight and the news wouldn't be fresh to them, probably known for weeks.

If the team falters this week, it will be because of the 3 big names that are missing from the named side.

Riccio mentioned this late in the discussion last night on 360...id say theres exxageration there ... t rying to stoke a simmering fire make it.more than what it is...its what these grubs do....and do you honestly believe he wouldnt be all in while still here?
Hes far too professional for that

Why are they being allowed to negotiate and sign players pre November 1? I know I keep saying it, but it’s just a flat rort in plain view. I hope the team bombs and bombs hard. PVL is the biggest scumbag to ever grace this game.
Luai was a free agent since Novemeber last year. He had until the end of April to notify the club if he would be here for 28.

Also didn't the Dolphins have 2 years to sign players prior to entering the comp.

But do you think he hasn’t made his own enquires into the real situation there ? He has gone there primary to check out the living arrangements , security and the training facilities I would assume …he certainly must be ok given how quick has acted to sign up..and the things I responded to originally about the murders and kidnapping etc I assume are not a concern for him, and perhaps the nrl might just make this work after all

Robberies , murders , kidnappings , blokes walk the streets with machetes, woman rapped , seriously dangerous place to live in parts of, plus the local thugs on the streets , sounds like Australian news but over there it’s ten fold , this is a very tough ask for the nrl to make work
My friends dad works there for the government and must have armed bodyguards at all times because it is so dangerous, I think the nrl is playing a risky game over there especially if the games are played in Port Moresby

It certainly is. Watched a few tourist videos and I certainly wouldn't be walking around alone. I fear for players who have a bad game.

They're in a private condo complex, though with their own island to escape to. This is it here https://www.airways.com.pg/. I think it's being expanded for the NRL apartments, so they'll be brand new.

Jerome says he's doing it for family - but that's a big call. I wouldn't do that to mine. They'll be living in a small area for the next 3 years.

They have signed 18 players , and yes not world beaters but still 18 , those guys could have gone to PNG if asked and earned the full tilt of cash , PNG is not a destination to live , Perth is
You might be right over time that the lifestyle is a bigger selling point in the long run though i just cant see how when PNG have virtually no salary cap or taxes on 3rd party agreements.

The contract is not the problem it's the fact that he is being used as a possible recruiter for a cashed up club looking to put together a competitive team. This is not one quality player moving on to an established club fulfilling his contract - he is being encouraged to bring blokes with him while we pay him 1,2 for the privilege.
Some may not see that as a problem but it doesn't sit well with me.
Next year while he isin his last year with is, im hoping hes not spending half his time working on the PNG project and is still totally comitted to us.

I don't see the point of media and co discussing this whole thing too much. It was all done quite surgically and perfectly. I honestly can't put at fault any of Tigers, PNG, Luai or his manager etc.

The only reason to keep discussing it is regarding what this means for PNG and NRL. Wests Tigers have nothing to do in all this anymore.

It will be interesting to see how these guys cope with them and their families living in each others pockets week after week. Could become a bit of a powder keg.
