NRL boss Peter V’landys announces Jarryd Hayne could be erased from NRL history

NRL supremo Peter V’landys has announced Jarryd Hayne could be wiped off rugby league history books following his sentencing.

Two of Jarryd Hayne's former teammates have been slammed for 'despicable' social media posts after Hayne's sentencing for sexual assault. NRL supremo Peter V’landys has announced the league will consider erasing Jarryd Hayne from the game’s history books.

V’landys had earlier this year said in public the game would consider stripping Hayne of his Dally M Medals. The annual player of the year award is the most prestigious individual honour in rugby league — and now they could be taken away from the former Parramatta Eels star.

The disgraced player has a huge collection of honours that the league and his former club will now face the difficult prospect of potentially scratching them from existence.

The 33-year-old will be jailed for at least three years and eight months without parole for sexually assaulting a woman in her Newcastle home in 2018. He was given a maximum sentence of five years and nine months.

Hayne had been found guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent. He was found not guilty of the more serious charges of aggravated sexual intercourse without consent, recklessly inflicting actual bodily harm.

The convicted sex offender has launched an appeal against his rape conviction.

Hayne was named Dally M Player of the Year in 2009 and 2014 as well as making the Team of the Year three times. He was also named Rookie of the Year in 2006.He was twice awarded Paramatta’s Ken Thornett Medal as the club’s best player.

V’landys said Friday the league will have a conversation about Hayne’s honours, after his appeal process is completed. “No it’s not hard to take them away but we don’t want to prejudice the legal process,” V’landys told 2GB Radio.“We’ll consult the Parramatta club and we’ll make a decision after that,” he said. “We would like to see Jarryd exhaust his appeal process, once he’s done that we’ll make a decision.“Naturally we’ll consult the Parramatta club that he played with, but I think it’s a bit early to be considering it.”

V’landys revealed it had already been raised amongst the rugby league commission and there “absolutely” will be consideration if Hayne loses his appeal. “Absolutely, yes, there will be consideration given and the Commission has already discussed it.”Parramatta is also reportedly considering a similar decision to strip Hayne of his awards with the club.

May the history books read Jarryd who?

Maybe wait until we see what the appeal does, before we slaughter him?

He is a convicted rapist.

I don't know what stripping his achievements will do we all know who he is what he's done good and bad,Rugby League has had many colourful characters since its inception.

I can't stand Hayne ...but you can't strip him of his titles

If we are doing that should Matty Johns be kicked out of football forever as well .....not much better

Don’t like the guy, never did.
Obviously abhorrent what he has been convicted of.
He shouldn’t be celebrated in any way shape or form moving forward
But I’m also strongly against whitewashing and erasing the past in any way.
He won those awards years ago on the field and they weren’t a measure of his character but of his football ability.

Leave it at that.

I agree, if there was a grandstand named after him or a statue you'd change that but stripping awards is just re-writing history.

Stripping Hayne of the awards actually draws more attention to them. It puts them in the media now and ensures anyone looking at the winners list has to work out why there’s a blank rather than just gloss over the name.

So we can basically pencil Jarryd in for dancing with the stars in 2026 ? It couldn’t get anymore parasitic than Chapelle . Let’s kick it up a notch in 26.

Damn. Thought we had him ?

There will be a queue once he is in jail?

He'll be safe, away from all threats.
Probably in a wing with some other sex offenders.

Unfortunately.

Not many things that the US has that I wish we had. The son of Sam law is one of those things.

Definately. Should not be allowed to make any money from anything related to their wrongs. Ridiculous how some convicted criminals earn from their notoriety

The isolation in protection won't do him any favors either though, he's a very scared, lonely individual right now, and deservedly so.

There's other unsavoury types in the boneyard for him to spend time with though, isn't there ?
