The fact we are looking at Jimmy shows how desperate Tigers are to sign someone, almost anyone. Total desperation.

Why? There are a number of successful clubs who make similar signings. If we’re paying big $ maybe, but if he’s fit and good value we’d be nuts not to consider it.

You cannot add a bloke like that to a group that on face value hasn’t had a true leader in a while and that reportedly hates training hard. An absolute recipe for disaster. If Wayne gives up on you, there’s a reason.

They had to clear salary cap space. If Wayne had really given up on him they would have sacked him for whatever was going on that forces a player to walk out on 500k salary.
Jimmy has got no leverage so in some ways the only risk is to not stipulate the terms in the contract - one slip up and you are out and on the minimum wage.

Whilst I think Mansour would be a colossal mistake, Roberts at min wage is worth the risk. If (and it's a big if) he can get back to 70% of his old form, he'll be one of our best players. If he delivers nothing, no big deal.

There’s more to the Souths story that we don’t know about. And reading the media today Lee/Justin/Adam didn’t bother asking what that was. Another case of WT dropping the ball in my opinion. Read Wayne Bennett’s book, he is famous for getting the best of of troubled young men, he’s given up on Jimmy.

Don't get me wrong, i have zero faith in management, but in my opinion at min wage he's worth the risk. We have a very pedestrian backline, he'd add something (maybe).

Bring Daine Laurie or similar in, give a young guy an opportunity, if we can’t get stars I want guys who want to be pros.

Why not both? 2021 will be painful anyway, trot out a backline of:

1. Laurie
2. Nofo
3. BJ
4. Jet
5. AJ
6. AD
7. Brooks

and see what happens. It might be terrible it might be good. Certainly won't be boring though.

Think of how many clubs guys like Carney, Jimmy and Arana Taumata played for.

Rather give Momo a try and Tommy is going ok, still young and Storm wanted him, he’s going to get there

Momo is a plodder. I'd rather Roberts or Talau or AJ ahead of Momo.

18 games and 2 tries in two seasons for one of the best best clubs?

No thanks.

We should have given up on these signings after Idris hung up his barely used boots.

Heard anymore updates re Roberts Yoss?

Not that I’ve heard.

Souths are in the fortunate position of having options in their backline. He’s probably on decent coin there. Wayne also is looking at signing Latrell on a long term deal so I don’t know if his position on this is as instructional as you think it is.

Roberts doesn’t have to be a leader. That said, the club did its due diligence and spoke to him. From all reports the club was impressed with his attitude and commitment. What he is though is fast, a commodity we’re lacking in. He’s also very cheap given his pedigree and potentially the tipping point to us having a fast and dangerous backline.

Respectfully disagree he is what we need right now

I think I could live with signing Roberts a lot more than Mansour.

The only worry I have with roberts is i feel he is a very similar player to BJ...he will either have a stormer, or have an absolute plod of a game. No in between

Brooks might enjoy having someone with speed to hit a gap.

It’s an improvement on throwing short balls to mbye that’s for sure

Roberts was a rep player only a couple years ago and still fairly young, no reason he can’t recapture it

I don't understand all the negativity and talk of desperation. The club has its challenges, sure. But it still has a roster to fill. Desperation is Cleary signing deadbeats to 4 year contracts. There is none of that now and astute buying is key, not paying overs like the WT of old. Its going to set us up much better for years to come. All for Roberts if its a short, incentive based low cost contract. He might surprise us.

Signings are only good or bad compared to performance within the salary cap. That is why I'm not too concerned yet. The Cleary signings were terrible because they were long term dud contracts.

He wouldn’t be the worst signing of the off season. Eels signed Bryce Cartwright 😂

At least Roberts has done something of note in his career.
