John Bateman #268

Whilst this article is purely from Batemans side of things is anyone not concerned by this:

Apart from losing, Bateman was concerned about the development of the younger players, and said: “I wanted the kids to learn, they have a great bunch of kids there. At times, I didn’t feel like they were learning how I wanted them to learn, and I wanted them to get better.

“I refer back to [former Tigers’ halfback] Luke Brooks. The period I thought ‘Brooksy’ should have been playing State of Origin and for Australia, he got caught in that trap of being there, and he didn’t pick anything else up, and he was made the scapegoat for years and years.

Forgetting the last part is referring to Brooks, the inference is very clear about lack of development. I hope this has been rectified.
We have been poor at developing kids for a decade. All our juniors that have high end talent don’t develop into even a serviceable first grader at our club. Luke Books, Talau, Matamua, spring to mind (jury still out on the latter). It has concerned me for a long time.

If Bateman doesn't regain form and fades into the sunset, considering his recent crocodile wrestling attempt at humour, there is a spot for him in the next Crocodile Dundee movie, he can play the A Hole.
I can just picture the scene where they pan to some poor shmuck and Hoges says, "that's not an A Hole," then of course they then pan over to a shot of Johnny and of course Hoges says, "that's an A Hole."

I'm guessing that would be similar to what you are probably visualizing.

Some guys on here have a soft spot for Johny, but not me I hope every day is over 35C and he slowly melts like a chocolate soldier, never liked the signing and did nothing to change my mind.

Thought Sam Fainu might have scored a little bit higher than that, last year is gone now if he plays right side and brains it, we will have egg on our faces especially if ours is ordinary, the Seyfarth extension better pay dividends or we will be open to ridicule from the media again.
My perception is that the media in general have a fair opinion of Seyfarth and unless he has an absolute shocker this season and it comes to light that he has been signed for some unrealistically high figure, then I think he escapes criticism for the most part as does our signing of him.

Look I have been critical of him at times but with all players don't hold a grudge, new season clean slate there is always someone who really stands out in a new season hope its him, that right edge needs him to.

Just an observation at this latest media dig- maybe Wests Tigers didnt need to speak to Bateman- his rep was his manager and maybe his manager said Bateman didnt want to talk to WT at present and to talk through him.

It’s strange how many people on here were ADAMENT that Bateman had a huge blowup with Marshal in the sheds after a game and this led to him going to Warrington. It just goes to show that no one on here has any inside info whatsoever.
It was clearly about money.
It may have been about money, but there was 100% a blow up.

Only we would loose Blore because we had this brain dead nut and fat trucker Papalii ahead of him and then end up losing them too and now as a result have zero depth in our edges smh
Blore isn't exactly an amazing player. He plays a role in the Storm team, that's all he has to do. Tigers don't have that sort of system yet and I don't think he's what we need at the moment anyway.

The Article in the Sun Herald this morning by Christian Nicolussi "Silence of Marshall 'bizarre': Bateman"..... is simply "bizarre" in itself, claiming he was made the scapegoat for another disappointing Tigers season sounds more like paranoia to me. Then citing Brooks as a similar example of poor treatment by the club is a ridiculous comparison when you consider the relative contributions made by each to the club.
For a player of his experience, the the discipline he exhibited last season was extremely disappointing before he was overshadowed by his younger less experienced team mates. Yet the article goes on to say "Bateman was concerned about the development of the Tigers younger players, saying "I wanted the kids to learn. They have a great bunch of kids there. At times, I didn't fell like they were learning how I wanted them to learn and I wanted them to get better". Well John, you had the opportunity to do that for two seasons and for the greater part of that time, you failed miserably.
This article is totally one sided, someone is clearly deluded here and it's not the club, nor Benji. We really are better off with this guy is out of Sydney on that point at least we all agree!!

The best thing we can do now for forum sanity is to let Johny fade into a dim memory, hope the heat up there doesn't waste him down to half his weight, he whinged about it from the time he arrived, good stuff.

Perhaps for sanity we the forum should forget him but the club internally should be investigating his time here.
Why did he and multiple other rep forwards fail to play anywhere near their best?
How accurate are his claims that juniors aren't being developed appropriately?
And what is being done to rectify this?

Look only what happens going forward will answer the junior's suggestion and Richo is here now so the lack of senior form would be addressed, I think they had a look at the Bateman situation and the result is he's gone, when a player leaves and post some stupid image as a parting shot when he's been paid good money what's that say about his character, sorry mate but it's a good riddance from me.

Yep. Everyone fired or let go from an organization will find a way to spin the narrative away from them. There was certainly a reason why John would have been nudged away from the club.

While wearing Wests Tigers colours he very rarely run the ball hard, very rarely tackled hard, yet wanted to fight everyone.
That says it all to me as you ONLY earn the right to be a hard man by running the ball hard and tackling hard.
