Agreed. I didn't know about that injury to Aloiai. Kudos to him.

Yep.
Don't know how anyone could call that a fluff piece. It was a good read.
First I had heard of Aloiai's injury too, I also didn't know Matterson was a halfback.

And it's great to see how close some of our players are.

Beats reading about Israel Folau.

@yeti Me neither! Must've been why he has taken a while to reach his potential, he's running much more strongly and freely this year.

They could add Twal to that story, another Parra discard going great guns with us. Nice to see it go the other way for once instead of having to read about our discards killing it elsewhere!

Matterson really seems to love it here. His enthusiasm comes across really genuine.Lets not forget the Huth and Twal are also Parra juniors.

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that Josh Aloiai has signed a new playing contract with the club.

The new deal will see Aloiai remain at Wests Tigers until the end of the 2021 season.

Since making his first-grade debut for Wests Tigers in Round 1, 2016, the Glenora Bears junior has gone on to feature in 67 games for the club, scoring six tries.

Having featured for the Junior Kiwis as a youngster, Aloiai has also since made his senior representative debut for Samoa with two Test appearances to his name.

The 23-year-old said he was delighted to re-sign with Wests Tigers.

“I’m really excited to announce that I’ve signed for two more years,” Aloiai said.

“There’s a couple of really strong reasons that have kept me at the club: one is Michael Maguire and the direction he’s taking the club, and two is the loyal fans that we have, and I cannot thank them enough for their love and support.

“Particularly this year, I feel I’ve grown a lot and am happy with the improvements I’ve been making. I want to keep doing that and I’m so happy that I can do that here at Wests Tigers.”

Wests Tigers Coach Michael Maguire congratulated Aloiai on his new deal with the club and said he looked forward to seeing him continue to develop at Wests Tigers.

“I’ve really enjoyed seeing Josh grow his game so far this year and I really look forward to working with him on the next part of his career at Wests Tigers,” Maguire said. “As a group, we’ve developed some very strong values about where we’re going, and Josh is really growing as a leader in driving some of those things.

"He is incredibly well respected by all his coaches, teammates and staff at Wests Tigers and I know he will be a valuable asset for this club in the years ahead.”

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said Aloiai was a tremendous asset for club on and off the field and expressed his delight at securing the forward.

“On behalf of all at Wests Tigers, I’d like to congratulate Josh on his new playing contract,” Pascoe said.

“Josh is one of the most impressive young men I have met in rugby league and continues to have a huge impact for Wests Tigers both on and off the field.

“We’re very pleased for someone of his character to remain a part of this club and we look forward to him playing a very important role for us in the years ahead.”

Aloiai has been named to start at prop for Wests Tigers Round 16 clash against the Sydney Roosters at Bankwest Stadium on Friday night.

Sensible term stuck solid with us...should get even better..one of the few that adds grunt up front..continue to work on the defensive aspects of his game...

Welcome aboard Josh..

Glad to hear that he was happy to accept the offer on the table even though others offered longer contracts. Strong leadership required there to entice a player to give up a year of security or more money.
