My memory is not great, so I may well be wrong; but aren't Twal and Aloiai both juniors who were let go by Parra? The Slimes can have Moses and Matterson, good riddance.

You’re right they are.

I don't think a captain is that important in the modern game

The players are performing as well ....they would fear Madge far more anyway ...retribution is only one Tuesday afternoon around 4.00 pm away

An inspirational Capitan is.
We do need a “follow me and do as I do” Capitan ..... someone in the mould of what Roosters, Storm, Eels and Sharks have at present.

Future captain Josh A
Think our best forward if he stays fit and firing will be Packer, a proven performer and tough he is the enforcer this team needs. As someobe said in an earlier post at his best he is like a mid season signing for us really

Before Benji came back Aloiai was the one doing all the talking in team huddles etc, also notice how enthusiastic he is when the opposition makes an error. Mbye is as quiet as a mouse

I’m convinced mbye is just captain to do the media talking and take pressure off others

Given our last captain spoke like a character out of Deliverance, I’m happy to have a captain who actually speaks like a professional.

Crazy. Mbye looks like he could win lotto and still not give two craps out there. Aloiai any day

Given the direction the club is going in, him as captain obviously works. Appointing a new captain should be low on the list of things to worry about. One of the main roles of a captain is to build rapport with the refs. If you only want Aloiai cos he gets fired up after a mistake, well he already does that. You don’t need to be captain to be a leader.

I agree that it isn’t a massive concern atm, but I think definitely in the future he has it in him. Do you honestly think mbye is resigned after his current contract? unless he has a massive change in form, I don’t see it

Also could be said the reason for the change in direction is bc of blokes like Aloiai

He might get re-signed, who knows. We might offer him a lot less than he’s already on, but i’d imagine there will be an offer on the table.

Certainly hope not, a fraction above Jennings status.

Wouldn't issue him a new contract if he paid us myself.

Hard to put the c on aloai I'm not because he isn't a good leader he appears to be great but he spends over half the game on the bench means you need multiple caps etc. I know we have that now but I personally have always been a fan of 1 leadership voice

Matt Eisenhuth is also a Parra junior.

Moses and Matterson played Eels juniors as well. Moses played for Holy Cross but then played for Eels Harold Matts. He didn't make the next cut at Parra and Balmain picked him up.

There's also a difference between "let go" and "signed by someone else". For all the people who complain about Wests Tigers retention, any club with a decent nursery like Tigers, Parra, Penrith will have lists and lists of players who popped up somewhere in their juniors system but for one reason or another ended up elsewhere.

"Let go" suggests the club made a deliberate decision to not retain a player, rather than the player choosing to leave, or an opportunity arising elsewhere, or being simply being outbid.

It becomes a bit of a silly concept ultimately, because if you look hard enough there are loads of players that go through big junior nurseries and don't end up at the club senior level. E.g. for Parramatta David Klemmer, Paul Gallen, Luke Keary, Daniel Tupou, John Asiata, Jorge Tafua all played Eels juniors at some point.

Future captain material for sure

Just to keep track. In the last 24 hours in the future captain calls, i’ve read Aloiai. Grant, Lawrence and Doueihi. That’s a lot of captains.

Sounds
Like the Cleary days. No thanks

You mean people have different opinions? News to me

Just shows how funny people are after a win. A couple big losses and the club will be going nowhere in need of a clean out.

They still need a clean out the Roster is slowly forming however think we are maybe another 2 seasons away then will might have the Roster to be a continual Top 8 side without having to worry if we make it each season.

A good win playing the full 80 is always a bonus.....

On his wage I imagine he wouldn’t need to win lotto!

Well Mybe talks the talk and is quite smart, on the field he does not really inspire but the powers that be want him captain that's fine for now.
Aloiai is certainly captain material in the coming years, he is also a very good boxer and comes from a boxing family, there is lots of respect from team.

I hope he gets to box Gallen that would be fun

I agree mbye comes across as a good bloke and a smart one, however close to probably being our worst player in the team is pretty concerning for a captain

I think the Captaincy role is not as important as it once was and there's now more to being a captain than just on-field. It's the official responsibilities off-field where Mbye does well.
As for on-field, well yes there is Aloiai and Benji who are both close to the action and Doueihi has recently said Madge was keen for him to become more a leader on the field, which he has embraced.
On the weekend for Manly, there was Jake T doing all the talking at half time in the sheds.
Don't see the need for change TBH...

Aloiai staying ambitious despite Knights defeat

Wests Tigers forward Josh Aloiai said the side are staying positive and focused on the job at hand this weekend despite a disappointing defeat to the Newcastle Knights in Round 13.

One of the side's best throughout the 2020 season so far, Aloiai conceded the past fortnight had been an extremely frustrating one for players, fans and Members alike, but said there was still plenty to be positive about — starting with a must-win game against the Bulldogs this Sunday at Bankwest Stadium.

"We’re still staying ambitious and we have our goals since we’ve had at the start," he emphasised. "We’re not going to shy away from that and we’re still trying to get there. We’re just narrowing our focus week-by-week but also keep a real commitment.

“We’ve been talking about turning it around for so long and this week means everything for us.

“We’re disappointed but we’re not lacking belief or confidence," he said.

"We’re expecting to go out there and put in a really good performance.

"We’re still trying to do the right thing at training and tick all the right boxes, and we're still really confident in what we can do."

Trying to stay positive? I don't see that at all during the games. I see the team's heads go down, and a lot of players give up.

I find this article so rubbish it is offensive.
