Josh Davis and Tim Simona chances at NRL

Seeing the form of Andrew Everingham at Souths (former Western Suburbs player) and Mitchell AChurch at Penrith (believe a former Balmain player) are Josh Davis and Tim Simona capable of performing in the NRL if given a chance or should they look elsewhere for an opportunity.

Also in the past we had Jeff Lima, Ryan Hoffman and Lewis Brown who played lower grades but not given a chance at NRL. All went on to star for other clubs

I rather develop juniors through the ranks rather than have to buy established players from other clubs that may or maybe fit in to our structure.

I know from past posts that some members are fans of Josh Davis who seems to be able to play centre and back row. Is he a better option than Blake Ashyford and/or Joel Reddy?

Tim Simona performed well in the NRL when given a chance. He had some pace which we lack in the backs. Interesting to read he is playing full back this week. Future plans if Moltzen continues to fail.

Would love to hear others thoughts on this two players and any chance of playing NRL with WT

Everingham is going okay at the moment but he's a solid rather than spectacular. Rhys Pritchard was in a similar position last year (or 2010?) and now he's at The Entrance. Stacks of players drift through the lower grades at clubs before moving on. Some make NRL for a while, some go on to decent careers, most don't.

Ryan Hoffman played some junior football for Wests Magpies. I'm not sure he was ever on any senior contract at WT or at the Magpies.

Jeff Lima played NRL for the WT. Not much but he did make first grade.

Tim Simona had some decent moments in first grade but to me he looked a little light on to be effective at centre. Josh Davis I couldn't comment on with any certainty. I doubt he's in Sheens plans at this stage.

Hoffman is a terrible example. He was stolen by the Storm as a 18 years old and was on a packet. He was definitely in the Tigers plans.

Lima was released on compassionate grounds. My understanding is that the club did not make the decision to let him go.

I like Simona but havent been convinced he is a better option than what we have in firsts at the moment.

Davis I cant comment on but he has been around for a while and thats probably not a good sign in terms of whether he will get a gig in firsts.

Simona is only 21 and has the potential to be a clever centre or even fullback where he's playing this week.

Davis has performed well enough over the years to be given a chance but for some reason he doesnt get picked. He's a hard, no nonsense stocky player comfortable at centre but more of a backrower these days.

Both are potential first graders if they ever get a chance. I fear Davis will never see the NRL

Thats one thing i don't like about Sheens ,there were quiet a few good players from Wests and Balmain who he should have been blooded and Davis was certainly one of those players. I mean in 2010 Josh was killing it he was talked about by many as a potential first grader but for the life of me Sheens wouldn't give him a crack. He can play centre and second row. . Thats the trouble with Sheens he wont drop an outter form player to give these promising young kids a go.They usually have to wait for an injury but then Sheens has his favourite replacements anyway.. ADVICE. look for another club Josh..

Hoffman def got plucked early and on a packet at the Storm.

He was the last player we lost before Sheens took over. I recall Sheens saying he really wanted to keep him but the offer was massive and we couldn't match it.

I think Davis would offer decent utility value off the bench as he can play centre and is solid enough, and strong enough to play backrow - and he has a good go too, he's got ticker IMO.

Simona looked pretty sharp to me in the trial against Newtown this year. Looked physically stronger and he was good on his feet. I think he's more dynamic than Reddy, but Reddy has a size advantage and is arguably stronger in defence. Simona can definitely handle FG though IMO.

if ayshford doesnt have a real dig this week id like to see simona get another crack… out with the old...in with the new......hopefully blake can prove me wrong 😛ray:

Thank you for everyone's input.

Seems with Josh Davis he is not rated by Sheens and should look elsewhere to play NRL.

Simona might be a chance if Reddy and Ayshford continue to fail.

Im pretty sure Simona was 18th man last week against the Broncos. There was a player wearing jersey 19, who was running drills and putting up bombs in the warm up.

Was impressed with Simona last year when he played 1st grade, would like to see him put on a couple of kilos & i think he would be dynamite.

Yes, that was him.

jay hoffman .Ryans dad is bellamys best mate .Do you think that might have had something to do with it .Plus Ryan was only connected because he did his schooling at st gregs.

Hoffman was going to Melbourne before Bellamy signed with the storm. Hoffman I believe was a main factor in the Tiges winning in 05\. It forced the Tiges to invest in their jnr's rather than buying fringe first graders.

That's a dumb statement. Might as well say any local kid is only connected because their parents moved to the area. Hoffman also played local footy not just for gregs. He didn't have to play for wests he could have gone to the dogs, parra or the dragons who also benefit from the nursery on the hill.

I'd love to see Josh Davis play NRL. He has the talent, but for some reason, can't get a run.

Does Sheens watch NSW Cup games? The reason could be that alot of those guys train with NSW Cup only, they don't train with first-grade & the first-grade coaches. A few weeks ago, the Knights had Hilder in the halves when we had a gun in NSW Cup called Adrian Davis, but coz he had never trained with the first-grade squad, Bennett didn't get a chance to see him.
