Josh Drinkwater

Gee there are some whingers on here. Who do you think we are going to sign for depth and to play state cup Cherry-Evans maybe Johnathon Thurston on a million a year?

Get with it, he has been signed on a second teir contract to play state cup. He is only young and has a bit of talent. You never know he may come good he may not. All going well we won't need him in first grade!

Although JT and DCE would be great, Im not that unrealistic.

If we are looking for a young player with potential upside (in the ilk of Drinkwater) there is sooo many better options IMO, Jordan Meads and Mason Lino from the warriors are available, the younger Cornish brother has no pathway at the roosters, former cowboy Michael Parker Walshe as indicated he will come back to Aus if offered a deal. (There are many others as well, just the ones I know are available)

I would have opted for a more NRL ready (as a fill in option) given we lack a bit of depth. I would have looked at Capewell, Humble,Ryan Stigg

There are quite a few seasoned pro's running around in QLD cup that would be more suitable second tier players if we require someone who might have to play.

Im not asking for a star, Im not a fan of Drinkwater, and his poor results support my thinking as well.

Wests Tigers can confirm the signing of Josh Drinkwater on a two-year deal, with the halfback joining the NRL squad for the first day of pre-season training today.

The 22-year-old made his NRL debut for St George Illawarra in Round 5 of the 2013 season, where he played four first-grade games.

Drinkwater then moved to Super League club, London Broncos for the 2014 season where he featured in 25 games and scored 136 points (five tries, 58 goals).

The Terrigal Sharks junior played with Manly Warringah’s Holden Cup side from 2010 through to 2012, and said he was looking forward to being back in the NRL.

“I’m very excited to be back home,” Drinkwater said. “Once this opportunity came up, I was over the moon… [and] it’s great to be here at Wests Tigers.”

Either way we are buggered

He will either not be the right player or he will play the lights out and then won't want to stay and will play for the Sharks in 2016 or be homesick or have an emergency or his dog will eat his homework

Just watched the interview with him. He seems to have a good mature head on his shoulders for such a young bloke. He reminds me of Austin in that regard. Let's hope he can play like him too.

This is a perfect signing. Moses or Brooks will get injured at some point. [This word has been automatically removed] it…Brooks will be chosen for NSW halfback...you never know so you need a backup. I have a feeling this will be another Austin...you never know.

If we sign Mqueen or Merrin it will balance all this out and we will be looking good.

If we sign Merrin then we're a shoo in for top 4 with an injury free year.
That said, I don't mind the Drinkwater signing. Haven't seen him play before, but he'll be on minimal coin and there as cover for injury which is what we need for a half.

Hopefully Taylor can help a lot with the halves this year. We saw what he can do with Pearce.

Realistically we would then have 6 half/five-eighths next year in Brooks, Moses, Martin, Moltzen and Drinkwater. Siro can also cover 5/8\. But it's certainly a worry if Brooks/Moses go down. Martin is unproven against men. Moltzen is borderline useless, so Drinky may find himself some first grade time if he performs well in NSW Cup. Still spewing we let Austin go, but hey…that's footy.

Drinkwater is a decent depth signing.

What about Lawrence and Sirro

Are you Sheens happy? Wasn't Lawrence the next Laurie Daley?

Doesn't matter what money he's on, you can't change that now. He could be on a million a year for all I care. It's all about whether he is good enough to play in the first grade side. And that my friend, is how JT should be picking the sides, not based on his salary.
