Ever wanted to know the typical Journo’s hit rate on their breaking news and rumours? I recently listened to a few short podcasts of Triple M’s Brent Read for the month of November. I like him actually, he doesn’t take himself too seriously and in my opinion is one of the better 'Journos'.

Date - November 1: Predicted Joey Manu will stay at Roosters? NOT YET. Marata Niukore possibly to Warriors? YES. **(1.5/2)**

Date – November 8: Mitchell Pearce to secure release to France? YES. Junior Paulo is sought after but will re-sign with the eels? NOT YET **(1.5/2)**

Date – November 10: Joey Manu announcement to stay at Roosters in the next week? NO. Curtis Scott all but signed at Eels? YES. Brandon Smith will make a decision tomorrow (11/11) on his future, likely to be with Dolphins. No chance with Roosters or Storm? No. **(1/3)**

Date – November 18: Announced Papalii to the Tigers (official) and Luciano Leilua quite probably likely to stay at Tigers ? NO. Luciano Leilua will not get $700k from anyone. Tigers in the box seat? NO. Josh Hodgson still negotiating with Tigers? (No prediction) – **(0/2)** Also announced a very major resigning to be announced tomorrow (18/11) - Dont know who that was.

Date – November 25: Announced Reed Mahoney leaving. Junior Paulo red hot to sign with Dolphins (not yet). Brandon Smith likely to sign with Roosters (not yet) **(1/2)**

I gave half marks for predictions not yet verified.
Total: **5 correct from 11**

So next time you quote your breaking news as fact on this forum and quote newspapers and radio..... think you are relying on less than 50% hit rate !

To be fair to him. The comment about Luciano is common sense not his fault someone decided to pay it.

50% is too bad for a journalist who is only hearing one side of things. I’d never take them as having all the knowledge but a lot of what he has aid has truth to it just wasn’t 100% right

Journos just get fed whatever their player agent or club contacts feed them, which is usually info to drive a price up or down of a certain player or put a coach on notice, and failing that they'll just speculate sometimes.. I don't think it's ever meant to be right or wrong it's usually just to promote clicks to a website or drive a narrative. Anyone looking for a winning track record wont find much fruit

Swordy, thanks for going to the effort with this. You’ve set the bar a little higher for all the lazy journos who just repeat what they’re told, usually without corroboration. I tend to half believe a statement on player movement if it is backed by the player’s prime motive. e.g. ‘said player wants to play in France so he can care for his sick Aunty ‘ etc.
