Balmain Tigers 32 (Reggie Alofipo 2, Ben Stevanovic 2, Curtis Wilson, Tili Sikahele tries; Stevanovic 4 goals) bt Western Suburbs Magpies 24 (Hyrum William-Pulotu 2, James Tautaiolefua, Maurice Faaae, Lucas Castle tries; Tautaiolefua 2 goals)

SG Ball

Balmain Tigers 36 (Lisala Tangi 2, Ryan Papenhuyzen, Tikoa Lene, Toni Tali, Nick Wilkinson, Moses Suli tries; Suli 4 goals) bt Western Suburbs Magpies 12 (Netane Masima, Evander Titie-Anetelea tries; Hosea Leuea, Masima goals)

Two huge wins for Balmain here. Realistically they should never be beating Wests in either of these age groups, taking into consideration resources and the size of the junior leagues. Not sure if it is to be put down to great work by Balmain (particularly Paul Siro & coaching staff) or poor work from Wests? Maybe a little of both?

It could just be a really strong age group for Balmain. Either way, the stronger these two catchment areas are, the better off the Wests Tigers are in the long run if we can continue to develop top juniors without having to buy from other areas.

Balmain have had about 5 years of consistently strong sides. We did win SG Ball back-to-back 2012-13.

Prior to that, we last won SG Ball in… 1982!

"taking into consideration resources and the size of the junior leagues."Im led to believe that Balmains resources are thanks to Wests Ashfield. Can anyone confirm or deny this as I thought it was Ryde Eastwood.

Wests Ashfield don't in any way fund Balmain's Junior Reps. Ryde-Eastwood is on their jersey, so I assume they chuck some money in.

It's got to have plenty to do with the local schools and proximity Balmain have to them that keeps us strong. Holy Cross have an excellent HS RL program.
