Club had its latest injury report in the member email with team selection this week. Olam has had arthroscopic surgery on both knees and is "travelling very well". No more info than that.

6-8 weeks is usually the upper end of recovery period for arthroscopes so you'd think he'll be ready to rip in November 1 for pre-season.

Long story .....but had a ruptured ACL that a surgeon missed or decided not to do and played touch footy for almost a season
Went to new surgeon with old scans and he pointed out the ruptured ACL in the old and new scans ......

Isn't that a scary thought.

That he only got a proper scan due to the ban. That DR1 misses an ACL tear and so Olam is playing crap.... Then DR2 points to the current tare and the one the first dr missed!

Hopefully healed up we can see some 2022 performance from him. Of all the backs we have signed, OLAM is IMHO the one I most look forward too.

Think we need a 2nd opinion from an independent Doctor on knee scans/MRI's in future.

Yes going by this week’s member email. Peter Moussa spoke in past tense about him having had the arthroscopy.

Typical operation if knee cartilage needs a clean up.
Problem is, there is only so much cartilage in the joints before it becomes bone on bone.

keen for Juz to have a big year. a full preseason and being able to train week to week with the boys should see him improve considerably on 2024.

Knees are hard to fix depending what the issue is.

I think it will go one of two ways. It will either make things manageable for the rest of his career or won't fix anything and he may need to retire.

I hope it's successful but I think the latter is most likely. You don't hear many stories about 30+ year olds getting knee surgery and then being back to their best.

I had a friend who's knee was smashed in with a pipe.

He had reconstructive surgery and it was massive. He now walks fine and you would never know that he could not walk before.

That Friend was around 30, maybe 27 but I think older from memory.


Olam has a good chance. The rehab is better, it is down to him though to follow it. I am glad he is coming from the Storm where they would push stuff like that.

Yes, I had the platelet replacement done with both knees a couple of years ago after the winter cold started playing merry hell. Works wonders and still going strong. Hopefully same for Justin and him killing it in 2025 season.

Worth discussing with your GP and Orthapedic surgeon.

But these days, if you are young (less than 60) make sure you go to a Orthopaedic surgeon who uses that Mako surgical robot.

It opens up the option of a partial knee replacement path where they just replace the part that is bone on bone rather than the entire knee. Doing partial doesn’t really work without a robot.

Also when you go, ask them for their joint registry results. Australia has best performance tracking (% failure by brand and by Dr) in the world for Orthopaedic joints (hips and knees). Some Drs are smart and charismatic but have terrible hands. The human bell curb is consistent with most professions.

I have serious knee issues in my right knee. Worth doing?

Can only say in my case its worked wonders. Bit frightening drawing x amount of blood out and then the centrifuge to get the red platelets into a paste in inject into the knee joint, then watching the needle almost disappear into your knee. But, once its done my knees have been so much better now for almost 3 years. This last winter I got a little bit of arthritic pain in one knee but not enough to warrant revisiting the orthopedic surgeon to get it done again. At some stage, hopefully long into the future, will require knee replacement/s but no sign of it being needed anytime soon. So, after that long response, apologies, yep, certainly check it out.
