Wests Tigers prop Keith Galloway has needed to plot his pre-season training - and honeymoon in a tropical paradise - around a bung big toe.
Galloway, who married his partner Serena Brimicombe in front of a large contingent of past and present teammates on Saturday, had an operation on his toe at the end of the Tigers' season but it still had not healed.
While coach Michael Potter was confident the 28-year-old, who has played five Tests for Australia, was well on track to line-up for the Tigers' first-round match against St George Illawarra, he conceded Galloway remained on a restricted fitness program. Rather than running, he was confined to the gym heaving weights and busting a gut on the rowing machine.
''We're hoping so,'' Potter said of Galloway lining up against the Dragons. ''The best case scenario is, 'Yes, he'll be there,' but it will depend on how he responds when he starts running in his first few hit-outs. Everything is on schedule but my crystal ball is not that good.''
Potter made it clear Galloway's interrupted season this year highlighted the pack needed his size and experience, but he added, those stints on the sideline were out of anyone's control.
''He's had a bit of a bad run,'' Potter told Fairfax Media on Monday. ''He had that [pectoral muscle tear early in the season] and then the toe injury was unfortunate but we had it taken care of to give him every chance to make it back for us.
