Kicking Problems

Ever since Scott Prince and Hodgo left the team, we have had extreme concerns of kicking. Lui, Farah and Benji just don't offer that much in kicking although IMO they are improving rapidly. However, something more concerning is the high ball. None of our wingers (including Tuqiri) or fullbacks are high ball specialists or even close. This is something we need to work on. Grubber kicks need to be dealt with nicely as well however Mckinnon at FB from now on may resolve this problem. Hope Sheensy gets this message. Even if you don't fix this problem, Tigers will be my No. 1 team until my last breath. LOVE YOU TIGSSSS

You're deadset kidding aren't you? Farah and Marshall improving rapidly with their kicking game??? Seriously, these two have been kicking for years and they certainly haven't improved out of sight, so I don't know what game you are watching there. And you're wrong on Tuqiri not being good under the high ball, he's very good. McKinnon will hopefully add something from the back also.

i agree we need to work on more high balls, but then again i think every team does.

Is it just me thats starting to thinking the bomb is becoming the now standard 5th tackle option in the whole nrl

lol sirro, are you sticking up for me? Tell me if I am wrong about the kicking problems.
For example, Beau Ryan is not good under the high ball and it showed against the close game against the Roosters at Campo, the decider was under the high ball

benji struggles with his long range kicks..
especially whe nhe has too much time to think about it and tries to go for a 40/20 and ends up putting it 40 metres into the air and 20 over the side line.

farah is probably our best kicker in top grade and rightly does most of the kicking.

Lui hasn't done alot of kicking and has mainly been focusing on finding his feet in first grade, but the last couple of games he has put some nice long range kicks in that have found the grass.

Rightly or wrongly the tigers don't rely heavily on a kicking game to win them matches.
i'd hate nothing more then our team to always have the bomb as their first go to option as soon as they get anywhere near the oppostions goal line.

Lets see..

Benji…kicks out on the full...bombs that go sideways....stupid grubbers on the 3rd....And that was last week....

Robbie.....stupid grubbers....and a long kicking game that generally doesn't find the grass....can nail a 40/20 though...

Lui.....the best long kicking game in the club.....unfortunately the time he gets in FG is a lot less than when he was driving the 20's last year.....Has an awesome bomb when he has time.....With experience and better service from dummy half on the last he will get better...

Good thread ...I agree Bee Jay...the kicking game goes a long way in both winning and losing us games...

Braith Anasta has one of the best spiralling bombs in the comp, as soon as he put it up you could tell it was going to cause some trouble.
It wouldn't matter who was under that ball that day they would have struggled to take it cleanly.

haha, yeh i was sticking up for u.

U make some valid points.

We have never been exponents of the high ball really.

Even when we had Pat Richards who was one of the best leapers in the game, hardly scored a try off the bomb/cross field kick.

I just think its something that the coaching staff dont fully believe in and that they prefer the players to run it on the last, or put a little grubber in.

It makes it hard when one of our main kickers is the dummy half, and the 5/8 doesnt seem confident enough to go across the field, he would rather bring the winger up and put the grubber in.

I also dont agree with you Geo about Farah's kicks not finding grass, I think a lot of his kicks do find grass, but only because he kicks it flat and he doesnt have a big boot on him.

It would be good to have as an option but I am really glad they don't do it much, the clubs that do it all the time are so boring!

Tigers need to help keep the NRL exciting, along with with clubs like Eels.

There are more boring teams than not.

lui has a very good long distance kicking game on him from what ive seen so far. This is something we havent had in a while. Benji & Farah have the good short kicking and precise kicking. From what ive seen of Luis bombs so far i am very impressed. I for one would like to see him put up a few more high bombs to put the players under pressure so we can clean up the scraps or at most get a repeat set.
