Kimmorley switched to super league from the Knights, then was poached by Melbourne when the Mariners folded. I wouldn't say he was one that failed to be captured/held by the local system?
Also Kimmorley had some pretty decent halves in front of him at Newcastle. If he wanted to play halves he had to go. This was late 90s rather than post mid 2000s of course.
Yeah, he moved on in his early years, and rightly so. But he was around much longer than that when the Knights were struggling with halves.
Willie Mason was another one. They got him back eventually, but well after his prime.
I'm sure there are a bunch more.
