They've got to do something drastic with the culture. They've got a great nursery there, but players haven't wanted to stick around and play for their local team since the mid 2000's. Greg Bird & Brett Kimmorly are two that spring to mind.

Kimmorley switched to super league from the Knights, then was poached by Melbourne when the Mariners folded. I wouldn't say he was one that failed to be captured/held by the local system?

Also Kimmorley had some pretty decent halves in front of him at Newcastle. If he wanted to play halves he had to go. This was late 90s rather than post mid 2000s of course.

Yeah, he moved on in his early years, and rightly so. But he was around much longer than that when the Knights were struggling with halves.

Willie Mason was another one. They got him back eventually, but well after his prime.

I'm sure there are a bunch more.

It's never a good sign when you're getting thrashed by 30-40 in the first couple of weeks of the season. They look truly terrible.

That said, there's a long way to go, and their young guys will improve as I suspect Brown will persist with most of them.
St George were being written off as spoon winners at this stage last year, and they made the 8.

Bit like Penrith, so many good kids coming through constantly they always lose lots.

But the Knights have always had a heap stay and play with them. The current team, although poor as it is has loads of kids that came all the way through their system.

Matau'tia boys, Snowden, Mullen, Fitzgibbon, Ross, Feeney, Rochow and the Safiti twins all played SG Ball with the knights. 10 from a starting side as juniors would be very rare.

The Matau'tia boys have not lived up to all the hype since Canterbury had supposedly signed several of the brothers.

Knights have a great chance this week to get a W.

Raiders without Sezar and Austin.

I'm not discounting a knights win either….one things for sure they will be hungry.

They did the Chooks in without the same players.

Chooks are rebuilding in my eyes

lost their halfback
had their centre in scandal
lost Jennings
new full back (who I am a big fan of)

lost Maloney

that to me is a totally new team. If the tigers played them this week I would tip us to win. For that reason I am not as confident as the titans who do have new halves but they have remained generally intact from last year.

I would get on the storm to beat the warriors this week too and whoever is playing Manly I would back too

I wouldn't back the Knights with your money, they are woeful.
