Originally if you told me Galvin was leaving I’d be distraught, I still am slightly if I’m being perfectly honest but not at the level I thought I would be.
I think Lachlan has showed his true colours and ever since he requested a release last year I’ve been really vocal that I think he’s gone. But it’s not the fact he’s gone, it’s more so how it has been handled which has been incredibly disrespectful to all of the fans, players, coaches and club itself.
Benji gave this kid his debut fresh out of high school after all the noise and expectation was our boom signing Latu that he was going to get the nod.
Benji saw something in him others didn’t, not one of the other 16 clubs would’ve given him his debut last year, then after 2-3 games of losing he publicly comes out demanding a release…..After conversations with Galvin, he retracts the release and confirms he’ll be staying at the club.
Benji then gives him the keys, partners him up with NSW and international representative in Jarome Luai coming off winning 4 straight rings as the right hand man to Cleary. He also brings in arguably a top 3 prop in the NRL with Terrell May along with the platform we already have.
To add to this, Benji vocally promotes Lachlan to play his natural game and take the line on giving him the freedom to play eyes up football, whilst other coaches would limit and try restrict that and all of a sudden we’re winning games and currently holding a top 8 position with his football flourishing getting all the praise. But that’s not good enough for him apparently.
If you told any young 6 who likes to take the game on and play off the cuff, that they’ll be getting mentored by Benji they’d be over the moon, but to 19 year old Galvin it’s not good enough.
He’s laying the platform to give this kid the key to castle and he disrespects him and claims the reason he’s leaving is purely because of…. Benji?
The team identity is strong, I’m at the mindset of getting this entitled kid the boot and let him root in reserve grade until 2027. Give Latu the 6 jersey and see what we can do, he can have a front row seat to what we’re building.
In Richo and Benji we trust.
