Lack of leadership is why we don't have a good culture

That’s a nice cliche but what does it actually look like?
What actual behaviours or outcomes should the board be espousing that will shape our players on the field?
That was the issue for a long time, NRL appointments

I can see why the club signed Tamou but it hasn't worked out. We desperately need another leader.
Ive haven't given up on Hastings, he speaks well to media and has only had one game back in the NRL. He will be captain 2023 imo.
He looks a little sluggish atm but as he gets fitter he'll be a leader through actions even without the C beside his name. We need soldiers to follow a commander, that's the problem that's unfolding.

A good leader moves to the beat of their own drum. Unfortunately Tigers need a few more percussionist.
The leader doesn't actually beat the drum, he tells someone else when to do it, soon we'll have no soldiers to even lift the drum let alone beat it 😒

hopefully West’s can snare a few leaders that understand what a metaphor is.
I know the metaphor TLD, just pointing out another one, Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. [5 in total] Or too many chefs spoil the broth.
The jungle and the WT team can't function without worthy participants.
In actual fact, in the army we are all trained to be leaders, have a voice, so when the boss gets killed the next steps up.
In footy, everyone should have a voice but in the end the captain makes the final D.
I hope you get heaps of indians with a voice, or trumpet or drum...🤜🤛

+ talents like Papz and Grant.

You can call it leadership if you want too but one thing I've always noticed in sport is the most talented players tend to win more.

Your mental attitude matters as well. Some sportsman get the most out of their ability and some don't. Some perform in the big moments and some don't.

I don't think we need leadership. I think it's the completely wrong focus. We need talented players who play smart quality footy at critical times.

That's what happens when you hire a coach like Jason Taylor. He eliminated all the strong voices. We are only now starting to get them back.
Come on. Jason Taylor was sacked 5 years ago this month..
We've had plenty of time to fix the club and haven't.
I think you should be blaming Cleary. He did insurmountable damage compared to the lovers tiff between Robbie and JT.
Board is the issue always has been. Too many personalities in the front office want be celebrities.

Cleary came in at an ideal time. He was given an entire salary cap to spend how he wanted. He used it on a bunch of broken down has been and than skipped away a year later leaving us in another cap mess. And we are still feeling it this year paying part of Mbye’s contract.

Yet the head office stays the same.

I view him as worse than Taylor and Taylor was incompetent. I suppose to be fair Cleary didn't create meaningless drama like Taylor did in trying to get rid of Robbie.

Cleary though stuffed our cap for years. I don't think he cared one little bit about screwing our cap. He just wanted some quick wins and signing duds helped him look good for a week or two.

@matchball - head office may be the same but we aren't seeing the stupid signings that Cleary made. They've made changes.

Nothing happened with Taylor that is common at other clubs. Dozens of coaches have fallen out with players over the years. The optics weren’t good, and it wasn’t needed, but it did not do the damage to the club on field that the mess Cleary created. Him leaving the way he did made us look like a clown show. As if we weren’t good enough. It was an act of cowardice.

Our board have always been one of our major problems and nothing has changed except it is now dominated by the magpies. Many people used to say the main problem was it was a split board Balmain/Wests,that no longer applies and its about time the blowtorch was applied to them

Just as you need a team of professional players......you also need a professional Administration team....

Over the many years, look how many clubs of various sports have folded because of poor management....

Both go hand in hand at successful clubs.....

I agree completely. I honestly think Cleary breached all sorts of professional codes of conduct in the way he managed the club. If he was a lawyer or something you could have sued him for malpractice.

Taylor was a moron but I think there was way too much going on for him to be able to handle the situation. He had entitled arrogant upcoming stars and an entitled arrogant aging star player. My impression is the two groups didn't like each other as well. He was in over his head.

I’m struggling to think of anyone who was more detrimental to our club than Ivan Cleary
