Wests Tigers are pleased to confirm the re-signing of promising back-rower Lamar Liolevave until the end of the 2016 season.

The Marist Saints junior, who played Australian Schoolboys in 2013 before recently representing the Junior Kiwis in 2014 alongside Wests Tigers teammates Te Maire Martin, Manaia Cherrington and Watson Heleta, will join the full-time NRL squad in 2015.

A graduate from Keebra Park High School, Liolevave was a standout player for Wests Tigers’ NYC side in 2014, with the powerful ball runner registering 10 tries, six try-assists and 15 linebreaks on the left edge. He also averaged 22.5 tackles per game plus 109 metres per game — coming off an average of 10.7 runs per game.

Liolevave’s fine form in 2014 culminated in him being named as the NYC Holden Cup Coaches Player of the Year, with his focus now turning to consolidating on that form with a strong pre-season under new Head Coach Jason Taylor.

“It’s great to be able to say here with the boys,” said Liolevave. “I’ve built some strong relationships here and I’m looking forward to staying with the Wests Tigers.

“I’m really keen to be able to learn more from JT and the new coaching staff here at the Club. He’s brought some new skills to my game that I need to work on, and some that I didn’t even know that I needed to work on that much.

“That’s really good for me; I’m just looking to learn from him and get a good pre-season under my belt so that I can really build heading into next season.”

Great news to have it sorted. Looking forward to watching his combo with Martin and heleta continue to blossom and hopefully push for a first grade spot.

Why is it that 99% of people who post on The Kennel have such a low level of intelligence?

Still the fact he is prepared to renege on a deal with the Dogs to stay with us points that the club is going in the right direction.

Usually its our players trying to get out of their contracts…

The fact he's a gun and will probably play 5-10 first grade games this season only makes it an easier decision for him to stay...

They don't call it the kennel for no reason. A special kind of breed out that way…

I'm glad we have re-signed the kid but I can understand the kennels contempt. We are getting a bit of a reputation for players back flipping on contracts with other clubs.

Lol…the kennel are basing the angst on a article written by the Lurker much like some do here...I have never seen anything 'Official' from the Dogs saying the signed the kid....compensation....pffft

The only 'official' statement is above from the Wests Tigers regarding his re-signing....

Great News...

No sure how that is the WT's fault? Mmm

However, …..... Maybe we low ball and once it looks certain they are leaving drop back in with a late offer.....if that's the case then I'm ok with that as a strategy to get some players under value so long as we don't lose people we really want to keep.

It's not very different to players under contract looking to get a release from us to play elsewhere, like Austin, Blair and Thompson. Legally, they should all play for us next season but we were willing to let them go where they will get a better opportunity for their family.

Here a youngster seemingly had a contract with the dogs for next season, signed some time ago i would believe, but wanted a release from that contract to stay with his Keebra family. Which was probably granted under the same conditions that we granted releases to our players.

Hopefully the mate-ship between these players sees the others sign new deals with us too, although i think Seve and Martin had 2 year deals in the first place, whereas Lio had a 1 year deal.

The dogs tried to sign every gun player under the sun. Thankfully they have not succeed here or at knights. Very aggressive recruitment drive. They identified all the guns too.

I posted here a few weeks back that my roomie knows him pretty well and got her to ask him whether he was was staying with us or not and that he had said he was staying for another 2 years then would see what he wanted to do. He was very close to going to the Dogs and they had offered him a deal but changed his mind and stayed with the Tigers in the end. He didn't sign anything so we don't owe the Dogs diddly squat. People saying he did are talking rubbish.

That's good - all sorted - after reading some of the posts after I posted we were getting a bad name for backflips made me reconsider. I think it comes back to players trying to make the best decision for their progression in what is usually a very short career. I've always looked at a normal career path being a progression over 30 - 40 years. This obviously isn't the case in NRL where players have at max 10 yrs to set themselves up. The NRL need to come up with a contract system that takes this in to consideration.

Perhaps should have signed him for 3 years…Played well and captained Keebra and I thought he did well with the JK's as well.

The guys on the kennel obviously have not seen the kid play. It's understandable...but time will tell. But I like the way the club is moving.

The kennel is always good for a laugh, after reading it I'm just glad TCP/IP doesn't have the ability to transmit flares, rocks, spit or Lynx body spray.
