Laurie the Panther takes swipe at Sheens

I suppose he doesn't feel like he is being treated like a child there. Let's hope with this added responsibility that he will step up and do the game proud.

The Fonz did not know how to / was not capable of capturing the enthusiasm and talents of Daine Laurie. So of the games he played for the Magpies in 2009 were extremely poor.

The Fonz has recruited poorly for the 2010 season.

Bad recruitment for 2010?? 😕
Why cause we got rid of Laurie & Gallant??

Gallant will be a superstar of the game within the next 12 months.

The Fonz has made a tragic mistake with the way he has treated some players and you can put Gallant on the top of that list.

Daine definitely has the talent but that won't cut it. His attitude was real poor last season and you can hardly blame the club for doing what they did. So he's happy now at Penrith, everything appears rosy, but what happens when things don't go his way. Will he drop his head again and lose the motivation? You hope not but history says he's prone to do so.

I agree Bug. I think the good thing is that we can always buy him back if he does become great. aka. Hodgo.

Uh, you do realise Gallant asked for a release, right?

Can't blame Sheens that Gallant is soft. He saw there was competition for spots and he copped out and went to some place that had none.

Don't need grubs like that in your side.

Complains about his "treatment" at the club. Maybe if he turned up to training and learnt how to catch a pass, he may have been treated like the superstar he thinks he is.

I Disaggree Bug , Sometimes talent doesnt settle at its first attempt in the Big time.

Fonz is one of the all time great nurturers of talent acording to those who have played under him. I believe he doesnt put up with mess for too long.

I think Daine had too much going on and too quickly.

Was sad to see him go as I would have liked to see him with WT for another season.

Ps - Recruitment has been better than any other season and I Certainly hiope to see Fonz post 2010 with the WTs

In todays SMH

Smackdown - Laurie wants piece of Mason ADRIAN PROSZENKO AND JOSH RAKIC
January 31, 2010 .
THE Sydney Roosters don't want him. Rival clubs are wary. But there's one hombre who wants to see William Marshall Mason remain in the NRL. ''Tell Willie Mason when I see him I'm going to slap him in the face,'' goaded new Panthers recruit Daine Laurie. ''I'm gonna hurt him if he actually gets a start this year.'' It turns out Mason and Laurie have a mutual friend and the latter was furious when word filtered though that Big Willie had bagged his fellow bookend. ''[A friend] saw Willie out and was saying 'How about Daine Laurie, he runs pretty hard and he's a pretty good player','' Laurie explained. ''Then Willie told him 'Nah, he's a poor excuse for a footballer and is just a drunk'. And calling me a drunk! Is he serious? He loves a drink. Everyone knows that. If you can put that in the paper, then put it in the paper. I used to have nothing but respect for the guy until I heard that. But that's it.'' Laurie has bulked up eight kilograms, bringing him up to a Mason-esque 116kg. We're already salivating at the prospect of the young bull and the old one sorting it out. Old school. Mason was unavailable for comment. If he joins the Cowboys, they happen to play Laurie's Panthers in round two

The more Daine comes out in public, the more I feel good he is gone. What kind of bloke airs this kind of personal stuff in the papere? He is certainly talking big. Setting himself up for another fall? If I was a Panthers fan, knowing his background as we do as a Tigers fan, I'd want him to shut up and let his actions speak.

LOL. Next thing he will be making internet posts "dissing" 50 cent…......... oh wait that happened a few years ago lol

Mason is at least half right

Go Ziggy !

Love it ! Should be more of it !! Players calling each other out, then sorting it out on the field face to face !! … adds more excitement and anticipation to the game & brings people through the gates....... hey Gibbo & KG, Dave Taylor & Big Roy called you guys pillows and soft, watcha gonna do about it !!

Would be nice to see Ziggy square up to the Fonz also !! :imp:

i hope Daine Laurie has a great season. I hope he's happy. He has the potential. Maybe Elliot can set him straight. then i hope he comes back to the Tigers.

Hey Daine,

Dont get to close to Matty Elliot, he only just hung onto his job last year and the coach I reckon with be first to get the flick in 2010.

Bug …maybe you can help me out....here's the long list you speak off...Apart from the Obvious in Prince, Hodgo and Laffanchi.....which players have gone on to become superstars of the game....

2006 Released/Went To Other Clubs-O/S
Rangi Chase, Mick Crockett, Shane Elford, Keith Eashman, Ben Reynolds , Sam Harris, Ben Jeffrey, Anthony Laffranchi, Jamal Lolesi, Scott Prince, Chris Paterson and John Skandalis.

2007 Released/ Went To Other Clubs-O/S
Ben Galea, Paul Whatuira, Jason Moodie, Issac De Gois and of course Daniel Fitzhenry...

2008 Released/ Went To Other Clubs/O/S
Bronson Harrison, Stuart Flanagan, Tevita Metuisla, Brett Hodgson, Ryan O’Hara, Jarred Saffy, Ben Teo, Ryan Tandy and Mathew Head....

For that matter which players would you have retained from '09 apart from Gallant....If we didn't have Sheens as a Coach....

2009 Released/Went To Other Clubs-O/S
Shannon McDonnell, Rhys Hanbury, Danny Galea, John Morris, Dean Collis, Rocky Trimarchi, Peni Tagive, Dene Halatau, Corey Payne, Wayde Dunley and Shannon Gallant...Oh and Daine Laurie.....

You say Recruitment is bad for 2010......well it's a hell of a lot better than in previous years..........

Geo - Your a machine

The only real loss for me was Scott prince. This whole in the #7 IS the reason for the last 4 years in the Semi final Wilderness.

Prince' defection to the Titans was a Family decission that the Fonz or any amount of $$$ couldnt have stopped.

Daine Laurie talks a much better game than he plays. Bottom line was he was not NRL standard in 2009 except for maybe 10 minutes against Parra. Actually from what I hear he was hardl up to reserve grade standard. Can't blame Sheens for this one.

Yeah, who does Sheens think he is?

It's not Daine's fault that he didn't turn up to training, or that he lacked several basic skills of being a footballer, or that he was involved in domestic disputes, and after all this, surely Precious is well within his rights to ask for a pay rise.

How dare Sheens wants his players to act in a professional manner.

Its always a particularly good look when a bloke who has spent time in gaol for assualt, has had a number of AVO's against him and has been charged with assualting his partner, threatens, in a national newspaper, to assault someone else.

Yep, it looks like the move away from the Tigers has really sorted him out. I can really see the new attitude kicking in already.
