Lawrence Change

There has been a lot of people criticising Chris Lawrence this season. Understandable considering the form of a player who was one of the best centres running around only three year ago. He has lost a fair amount of the blistering pace he once possessed but, more importantly, he has also forgotten how to defend. And this was once one of his strengths.
I believe that there is a solution however. What I'm about to say won't surprise anyone. It's something that has come up often in the past. Which is why I find it so perplexing that it hasn't been given a real go yet. Despite his form Lawrence is still big, quick, powerful, and can run a really good line with authority. So why not whack him in the second row? Or at lock? Moving him closer to action will only help with his defence, with less alternative options to have to decipher, and I could see him developing into a quality wide running back rower a la Luke Lewis or Greg Bird. And let's face it; he would have to be better than some of the other options we currently have.

Any thoughts?

Couldn't agree more.

Such a shame to see a guy who was tearing teams apart a few years ago struggling like he is.

I've been saying that for ages. He has the ability to be successful in the back row, probably lock. Give him the summer to build up and let him try and re-invent himself. He deserves a chance to do that before throwing him out with the garbage

It could work but we have a plethora of second rowers; Bodene, Bell, Blair, Fulton, Ava, Spence, Sue, Pettybourne and there's been talk of doing the same to Utai and Sirro.

He'd need to be VERY good to secure a start or even a bench position. And it'll take time for him to learn the position and be good at it.

I think that is the main problem we don't need any more back rowers we have plenty

we may have a number of backrowers, but week in week out we have the worst performing backrowers in the comp.

production is pathetic from our backrow.no one works out of our end and offer nothing hitups in the opposition end.

when bodene is an automatic inclusion you have problems.

m not interested in this at all. An absolute waste of time. He is past it now. Potter must drop Chris now and stop pussyfooting around. He cost us last night again and will cost us as long as he is in 1st grade. End of story please!! :deadhorse:

When after 60 minutes, a team has made 100 more tackles than the opposition, the forwards will struggle. When you constantly drop the ball, give away penalties and fail to find touch/kick out on full, you will lose, despite your roster.

that doesn't happen every week, but failure to do any hard yards does happen every week.
ellis and rhino did this regardless of possession flow .

this mob doesn't,bunch of spectators out there.
they like the ball inside the opposition half and they will pad their stats and happily take the tackle.

pisses me off the lack of support woods has out there from the rest of our forward pack.

When is everybody going to see that Wests Tigers are carrying Lawrence. Again another two tries were scored on his side of the backline. These tries were scored in the first quarter of the game and put the team completely behind the eight ball. If he can't stretch out properly at centre how is going to cover defend and attack at second row?

I think that to say a 24 year old who has previously represented Australia may be a touch premature. Absolutely agree, though, our back row stocks are more quantity than quality. I really think that Lawrence could do well here. It may be a longshot but Luke Lewis' career wasn't heading to any great heights before he switched to the pack. And Paul Harragon started his career as a winger. I guess I'm just saying that it wouldn't hurt to keep an open mind. As for Sironen, I wouldn't mind seeing him in the centres.

Fair call. People were always criitical of Heighno not making many metres per hitup, but he always gave it his all and usually ended up with more than 100 metres in attack each week. Ellis has been an even bigger loss as he would get through a lot of work as well as dent the line in attack and stop players in their tracks in defence.

If only BMM, Pettybourne, Blair and co had the same workrate…

Watching him it is obvious the hip injury has rendered him unable to compete in first grade. I doubt moving him to another position will make any difference. I am so sorry for him as I was one of his biggest fans but I can no longer justify his selection in first grade.

He is done . Sad to say it cause I love the guy to death but his time is up , hasn't been the same since the hip injury always busting hamstrings and his defence is garbage and I think it's time to get rid of deadwood and start looking towards the future.

What rubbish, Lawrence has had his time and it is up to management to have the balls to move these blokes on. He unfortunately has not been the same player since the hip injury, he has lost pace, has no sidestep and makes some bad defensive lapses, but he his not on his pat malone there. Galloway is injury prone, Blair wouldn't make my over 35's team, Moltzen should take up a role on home and away, Marshall needs a tom tom to tell him the directions to get to advantage line and Blair, well he could get a run in a production of swan lake he spins that much and goes now were. Oh and yeah Potter grow some balls mate or Farah and Marshall will eat you alive.

Deadset how many more small backrowers do we need? Anasta, Fulton, Thompson, now Lawrence?

No thanks

Whilst I believe moving Chris to the backrow is an option. I don't see it being in the club's best interests either. I don't know where WT's go with him. Is there a strength and conditioning program they could find that could help him?? It's clear he knows he's struggling and it's affecting his game. And these hamstring issues are clearly a by product of his hip injury. So sad to see.
