LAWRENCE HOPES TO BE BACK IN A MONTH
30/08/2010 3:55:42 PM
Wests Tigers centre Chris Lawrence is expected to be back in three to four weeks should the team still be competing in the Telstra Premiership finals.

Lawrence had a plate inserted into his jaw last night after suffering a broken jaw in the opening minutes of the win over the Storm at Leichhardt Oval.

Wests Tigers will continue to monitor the fitness of Gareth Ellis (calf), Liam Fulton (calf), Wade McKinnon (hamstring) and Bryce Gibbs (knee) ahead of Friday night's blockbuster against the Gold Coast Titans at Skilled Park.

Feel for the guy. Been one of our best and sad to see him miss the most crucial part of the year.. Hopefully the boys get revved up over it and steamroll everyone and give Lawry a red carpet return on GF  Thinking positive!

I thought considering its the jaw he would have just pushed through it until our last match

He was planning to cause it was fractured by Merritt….Unfortunately now it's broke it makes it hard for him....

What a welcome inclusion he will be when he gets back...

Could we finally see Matt Ryan crack it for an NRL game?.
Get well soon Chris, we'll all miss you.

No
Daniela and Brown before him, Brown although will go back to full back and Daniela should come into the centres. Why risk a kid thats never played first grade before, with a mounting injury toll, a week before the finals playing to hold onto 2nd spot?

Ever broken your jaw? I have and it bloody hurts and it's not often the type of injury you can carry into a game and expect to get away without suffering:

a) An awful lot of pain; and
b) Further damage which is why Lawrence now has a plate in his jaw

It will be killing 'Man Child' not to be there come Week 1 of the finals. I reckon he'll be doing everything in his power to be there for Week 2 or Week 3 of the Finals. Hyperbaric Chamber, Caltrate tablets, litres of milk to strength his jaw, heck i'd be trying every remedy in the book. A Lawrence appearance in the Finals will go down as courageous, right up there with the best of them. Joey Johns' punctured lung in the '97 Grand Final, Girdler in '03, Cayless in '09 playing with torn hamstrings, Luke Phillips in '00 and our own Pat Richards and Magpie Legend and current Wests Tigers Physio and Trainer Andrew Leeds in '96 playing with broken ankle's. C'mon Man Child!!! I'll be praying for a speedy recovery. It will be criminal not to see the bloke play finals for Wests

The guys is as tough as nails. He is also very professional and will do everything in his power. I reckon in 3 or 4 weeks when we are facing elimination he will be out there putting his own health at risk.

I think he is current top try scorer for weststigers at 49 - is that right???
He is only 21 and played 87 games. He may one day catch up to Ken Irvine (212).
He may have another 8 yrs at this level - Great work champ and hope you recover fast

we need to secure 2nd… that gives us a week off and enables us to get Lawrence back for the preliminary.

It only gives the Tigers a week off if they win their first semi-final match.

Benji has 53…

I miss Lawrence already... 😢

Chris Lawrence may yet be back for finals

TIGERS centre Chris Lawrence wasn't picking a fight with Melbourne's Jeff Lima, but he believes it was a dreaded grapple tackle that broke his jaw and sidelined him until deep into the finals.

Lawrence had two plates inserted in his jaw at St George Private Hospital late Sunday and will be out of action for four weeks.

He went into the game carrying a minor jaw fracture and lasted just four minutes during the 26-14 victory before he was collected by Lima.

"I know that Jeff didn't do it deliberately, and he's a nice bloke, but he got me with a good grapple tackle which popped my jaw," Lawrence said.

"I had a slight fracture in there from a couple of weeks ago and we knew there was a risk it could become worse and become displaced, and unfortunately now it's cracked through.

"I'm pretty sore and I think they will wait until next week to see how well it pulls up before they make a better decision [on a return].

"If we make it to the final four I should be back."

The 21-year-old Lawrence was one of four Tigers injured during the Leichhardt Oval match, with Wade McKinnon (hamstring) and John Skandalis (buttock) unlikely to be available for Friday's trip to the Gold Coast.

Gareth Ellis, however, who played with a corked calf, has been given some hope of coming up against the Titans.
