Lawrence off to the backrow?

Is Lawrence off to the backrow?…they way this article is written its a definite move.

**Tigers – Kevin Naiqama**

Another side who has not been overly busy in terms of recruitment. Kevin Naiqama should move into the Tigers young backline, as **Chris Lawrence moves to the back row**.

Naiqama has shown signs of brilliance, and should he be allowed to play consistent first grade, he could become a brilliant pick up for the Tigers.

LOL….that is just the author of the articles guess...

He didn't gave much to go on recruitment wise for us

Lawrences problems in the centres are he makes stupid decisions and can not catch a ball, I dont see how the backrow will make him a better player.

Lawrences decisions have been cause he gets caught so flat footed in defence against speedier centres. He can actually pull off some big hits ala Steve matai if he can get you head on.So defensively it makes sense top play him in the backrow. He is also a very good hole runner(but due to his slowened pace due to injuries )this effect has diminished also.So yet again a move to the backrow makes sense here. Not saying it will work but Chris Lawrence in the centres can now never work due to his pace killing injuries. His only hope is the backrow. His hands was just a confidence issue. He can learn to catch again.

Yeh I'm not sure how he'll be able to protest his inside half. However, more than happy to give him a go there tbh

Where ever he plays he needs to step up as one of our most senior players and lead by example. His heart is in the right place but not sure the rest of him is.

With the classy halves we have we need a speedy backline to take advantage of their good service. Lawrence is no longer fast enough to score the tries of which he was capable of some years ago. His lack of pace is also letting in too many tries. Time for a change and Lawrence will just have to adjust to playing backrow at which I believe he will be successful.

How do u know he isn't a back rower Happy?

Luke Ricketson and Ruben Wiki are 2 guys that made the transition successful.

Having someone like Chris on one edge could be a huge advantage. Think Watmough, Aubussen, Graham. Slightly smaller build but hits and runs like a truck.

I have no doubt he would be a better back rower on the right edge than Bodene Thompson.

The backrow suggestion has never been anything more than a fan rumour, the club/coach/players have never talked about it.

Pretty sure Greg Alexander mentioned Lawrence switching to back row in his interview with JT last night.

Didn't hear JT's response though over the noise the kids were making in the car.

Would be good to get a recording of the interview.

KS They were successful because of the sides they played with

Rowdy doesn't have that luxury , that's for sure

I disagree with that happy.

While the teams they played for may have helped, i think it was more to do with the attributes those players possessed. They were strong hard running centre's who lacked that bit of speed….shifted one spot in and saved their careers. A back rower is just like a centre only one or 2 spots closer in needing a little more fitness, and little less speed. Right up Chris' ally at the moment I feel.

Luke Lewis started on the wing and ended up representing NSW and Australia as a back rower from some pretty crappy Penrith and Cronulla teams….

Lawrence hits the ball up from our own end like a back rower now and is quite effective...He also wouldn't have to play the full 80 if we roll with a 4 forward bench

I'd like to see it happen....could be the saving of his career....

Wouldn't it be great if his career was resurrected in the second row and he turned out to be a gun hole runner in the mould of a Lewis or a Watmough. He has a great work ethic and is still quite young after all, so anything is possible.

Think about it for a moment defensively

Assuming we leave Rowdy on the left side he will defend with Brooks , Rowdy , Naiqama and Pattycakes

That can't fill anyone with any confidence

Without Blair we will have sides coming at us that quickly we won't know what the hell has hit us on most occasions when they get a roll on

When you think of our defensive set up left or right side actually it is just scary

I hate to say this , but we will get pumped fairly regularly in 2015
