i expect to be eaten alive here, but he is so bad in attack at the moment. injury etc yeah yeah he needs time to ease his way into it, but he seems to be going backwards. there have been so many opportunities for him to put his foot down and he plays it safe, draws and passes. we could put heighington there and he'd do the exact same job.

hope to be eating my words come semis and he tears teams apart, but the exact same thing happened to collis and now he plays overseas.
 
I sort of agree. Defensively he has been great. Makes some great tackles and yeh his attack has been lacking thus far. We are at the halfway mark, I think it's just confidence. I'd thought he'd be a certain starter for the blues this year. I even put money on him to be top try scorer this year. I'm hoping he finds confidence to take on the line and bust the holes like we know he can.

Yeah mtd, it's really disappointing watching the demise of Lawrence. He should've been a shoe in for Origin this year, but he is barely making it at club level. It's very sad, I really hope he can turn it around - the guy was only just beginning to realise his potential when that damn hip injury struck.
 
I think the hip injury has done a hell of a lot of damage to him as a player. Keep in mind how severe of an injury it was and you might be less critical. I think he's still definitely the best option we have at centre but he certainly seems slower which was his main attribute because as they say, speed equals power and it was his explosiveness off the mark that gave him his ability to break tackles. I think Lawry is going to have to finecraft a different part of his game if he is to reach the heights he would have had he not had the injury.
 
defense has been good and dont think its an issue. its just the attacking spark. there's nothing there at the moment. there was a run when @ five eight a few weeks back where he almost crossed for a try, i thought he found it again. but havent seen anything since. its still early days, he hasnt been horrible by any means, im just comparing him to when i saw him at his peak, kinda hard not to want to see it again!

Don't know if you could call it a demise, but it is pretty sad to see his lack of pace.

When he made that bust on Friday night, he passed it to Lote, the old Lawrence would be still running in support, but he just stopped, something is not quite right.

I think every Wests Tigers fan is hanging out for the day to see him shine again, I think he is a favourite of everybody's.
 
just relying on the old form is temporary but class is permanent saying. our club must have the curse of injury to young talent. benji getting billion knee and shoulder reconds, dwyer, tuiaki and lawrence who still hasn't rebounded from an injury suffered almost a year ago. really hope he can come back to his best soon.
 
The guy had a major hip injury…he/we are lucky he is playing again!!! Give him time.. These things take up to 24 months to come good.. If ever... So go easy on the guy please.

its nothing personal against the guy, i think everyone understands the injury has effected him.

any nrl team needs their 1-17 to be capable of firing in the semi finals, if we have a centre playing off benji marshall, they need to be capable of really firing. if lawrence cant reach that again it will be a real shame and i will definitely feel sorry for him, but we will need to put someone else in the centres.
 
I agree with everyone's comments so far. I do believe he will get back to his best, well I hope he does. To me even before his injury I think he always made 1 or 2 bad reads in defence, not shutting plays down and not wrapping players up, completing the tackle. This ultimately has kept him out of origin.
Top person, top clubman and I hope he achieves everything in the game.

He is not getting the quick early ball he use to get with Benji at no6 , but I think he has been getting better with every start.September is still a long way off, he has plenty of time to regain his mojo
 
He's recovering slowly to this point and i think it will continue to be a slow thing. I think about his form now and in the first month and he's definitely playing better. You can tell though the confidence isn't quite back. The hamstrings have played their part with his confidence as well but i've seen the odd sign that he's getting over the serious injury. I think he looks a little quicker off the mark than he was. Nowhere near where he can be but a little better at least.

It will take time though. With more games comes more strength and better conditioning of the hip area. I believe he'll get back to his best but it probably won't come this year. It was such a debilitating injury, it was always going to take time.
 
Of all injuries Lawrence could have got, a hip injury is probably the one that would affect him the most. His running style and especially his ability to break tackles came from his hip. His go to play was to skip to the outside and put his power on and force the inside defender to go low on him using his outside man to lure the outside defender where he would invariably use his hips to break the tackle and streak away. With less power in his hips not only is he unable to get to the outside quick enough to force a legs tackle often but when he does he seems to be unable to hold the weight of the tackler long enough to break it.

Collis came in and did have some injuries, but reached his peak pretty early on. The efforts Lawrence had given, even before last season's blistering start, had already ensured he will be remembered for much longer than Dean ever will.

he looks tentative and i wish he'd go looking for the ball a bit more coming out of our own end, but makes some great plays defensively. does more than enough to justify his selection imo
 
I wonder if Tiger99 can shed some light on the team's sprint tests and confirm if he actually has lost any speed.
 
Everyone loves Lawrence and wished him all the best. Class player and person.

If he can not regain his pace maybe a move to the scrum might be an option. Lawrence is built like a second rower/lock.

We need some pace in the backline which I think fans are concerned about.
 
Chris seems to be improving every game, and if people don't remember, towards the end of last year he had some awesome line breaks and seemed care free when running for the most part

Thats easily fixed if that is the problem Mac

Play him right side and that shouldn't be a problem

As Gould says 'Speed is power "

Lost speed equals lost power This is the issue imo

His best game of football this year was City v Country playing right side
 
As mentioned by a previous poster, I thought he killed it when he first returned from the hip last year. Our attack immediately looked better. Then he did his hamstring setting up a matchwinner against the Dragons (I think?). He hasn't been the same since then.
