THE first representative weekend for 2012 has come and gone.
It was a great honour to be picked for City Origin. Sure, it would have been nice to have kept my Australian Test centre position but the team was chosen on form. All I can do now is work extremely hard for Wests Tigers, play some good, consistent footy and if I do that, there is a little event called State of Origin around the corner.
It was a tremendous week in camp with the City boys and to beat Country Origin in Mudgee topped it all off. One of the great things about representative teams is that you get the chance to meet players from other teams, learn about their personalities, and see how they prepare for games.
It was great to be in City camp with my Wests Tigers teammates in Robbie Farah, Liam Fulton and Aaron Woods. Unfortunately, we lost big prop Keith Galloway to a foot injury on the first day of the camp but he is hoping to return this weekend against Parramatta.
One of the other highlights of the week was seeing our injured Wests Tigers teammate Simon Dwyer involved as assistant coach.
We all know what he has been through and he is one tough kid who is determined to one day return to the rugby league field.
As for the City versus Country match itself, I thought it was a quality game. We got off to a flying start and dominated the first half to lead 24-6 at half-time before the Country boys fought back well to almost snatch the game at the end, but we held on to win 24-22\. It was also good to score a try off an old fashioned run around move involving Liam Fulton. It was my first try of the year so I am now due to break my duck for Wests Tigers.
I thought Woods was outstanding up front for City and he could well be a bolter for the NSW Origin side for game one. Woodsy is a tremendous young kid who just wants to learn all the time.
This weekend, the NRL competition resumes and for us at Wests Tigers, it is about building on the momentum of our win over Penrith last round. The Eels are under the pump like we have been in the past few weeks and they will be fired up but we must match them early.
