Rookie Warriors second rower Lewis Brown has been added to the Kiwis' train-on squad preparing for next month's one-off Test against Tonga and the inaugural Four Nations tournament in England and France.

Kiwi coach Stephen Kearney said Brown (22) had been brought in to provide more cover for the squad's back row options.

"We've lost some of our second row contenders like Simon Mannering, Sika Manu and Zeb Taia so we've called Lewis in to give us some more depth there," he said.

Christchurch-born Brown was one of the three finalists for the Warriors' 2009 Young NRL Player of the Year award, which prop Russell Packer ultimately won.

Brown joined the Warriors after the 2008 season from Wests Tigers, earning his NRL debut against St George Illawarra in May and going on to make a total of 15 appearances.

His inclusion boosts the train-on squad to 39\. Those players not involved in finals football have been training at various locations since last week.

The world champion New Zealanders assemble in Auckland early next month to prepare for the Test against Tonga in Rotorua on October 14 before flying out to London two days later for their opening Four Nations clash against the Kangaroos in London on October 24.

National selectors Howie Tamati (convener), Tony Kemp, Darrell Williams and Kearney named a large train-on squad early last month from which the 23-man touring team, due to be announced on October 5, will be selected.

More than half the players in the squad were involved in the first week of the NRL and Super League play-offs. With four teams now eliminated in the NRL race, nine train-on squad members are still in finals contention for Melbourne, the Bulldogs, Brisbane and Parramatta while Brent Webb (Leeds) and Thomas Leuluai (Wigan) are still in the hunt after week one of the Super League play-offs.

Not good enough for Sheens. Leaves our club and almost INSTANTLY becomes a REGULAR first grader and NOW International representative. Well done Lewis, good to see you made the right decision.

Awaiting the cavalcade of Who? questions and "no big loss" statements from the old forum to re-appear on this one.

Congrats to Lewi though

Slotting into the second row has also been good for Lewis…..2010 he could have come in handy as a back up hooker as well for Robbie

Just slightly off the track - but do other teams have as many players possible first graders leave as we do and then go on to make the big time in the first or second year after leaving - not whingeing - just interested to know how other teams fair.

You guys are always complaining we have too many backrowers. Who would you have punted to keep Lewis?

Good luck to the bloke but every NRL player who's ever holidayed in Auckland seems to get a run for the Kiwis from time to time. Even Bronson Harrison played test matches while being coached at club level by Tim Sheens.

Halatau. Simple answer

I hear the other pom, Flanagan, can play hooker, in the halves and as a lock/second row. I think he could be our number 14 next season.
