Liam Fulton signs new 3-year deal

Without knowing the financial details I don't know how anyone could judge the merit of the deal.

Also interesting the quote about his 'utility value'.

ye heard that a lot b4 😱pen_mouth:

Its funny.

I feel like I should be excited by this news, yet for some reason I'm not.

He's a great clubman, and does all the dirty work around the ruck, and at times has fantastic games.

I just can't help but feel though he is going to be eventually taking up a precious bench spot from someone younger coming through….

the other side of the coin is start him at lock, and put Anasta and Blair in the backrow, and we are almost back to having one of the lightest packs in the game again...

Hmm I agree witht the sentiment of some of the others on here - 2yrs would have been special - 3yrs puts him here until the end of the 2016 season - thats actually a season longer than Benji...

congrats to him, punches well above his weight and is very much a club man. I to am worried about our pack size, but you need tackles and line runners, and that is Liam Fulton to a tea.

Hmmmm…..not a great signing for mine.

Don't get me wrong, I think Liam has been a great servant and I am proud of his work for us. However, mostt judges can't find a starting spot for him this year. The chances of him still being in firsts by 2015 seem remote to me at best.

I would have given him a 1 year extension to help bring the kids in but that would have been it.

Agree. I mean I'm glad he wasn't tossed out, but I think 3 years is 1 year too long. Guys like Kyle Lovett, Brendan Santi, Andrew Vela…they'll all be pushing for FG spots next year and while Liam may be able to keep them at bay for awhile, I think he'll be down the pecking order in 3 years time.

I can't really see where he fits into the structure for the next few years… Most of us on here are finding it hard to put him in the 17 with Anasta, Thompson and Pettybourne brought on board.

I find it interesting that they have signed him so early in the season for 3 years. I'm guessing he has the support of both Potter and the board for this. He has been a great clubman and that one year he had in England was very handy for the club at the time. He may end up as a bench back-rower in that whole time but he is a good clubman and does his role almost every week.

As much respect as I have for Fulton there is no way you could be guaranteed he'd take up a spot in the top 17 - FOUR years from now!
Great signing - but for WAY too long (I would have thought one year with an option made more sense).
If this is the direction we're taking Farah will get offered a 6 year deal. :unamused:

Liam FULTON, BRILLANT! Runs the direct lines and eaither gets smashed or breaks thru a gap! Smart with the ball in his hand. Cleans up in defence better then my hoover. Have read argument, that Fulton and Anasta CANNOT be on the field at the same time, don't know about this? DEFINATELY, CANNOT have BLAIR on at the same time!!! Hopefully, Mr.Blair has improved for 2013, last year Mr.Blair was as useful as my chat up lines to the glamours at the Disco on a Saturday Night. TIGERS ALIVE!!

alot more people would be fine if this was announced in 8 weeks time.
every off season fulton is struggling to make the team on forums.yet 1 month into the season and he is one of the first picked.

interesting one of the most consistent defenders on the team gets the first real extension under potter.

Not sure of the length but Liam has done everything this clu has ever asked of him, played busted, moved to England for a year to relieve cap pressure and always given his all with a gttitude.

He will be a club legend, of that I have no doubt.

Fair dinkum you lot amaze me we sign a bloke who in my opinion has done everything this club has asked gone overseas when we were over the cap plays every game 100% plays injured is a club junior and always puts his club first, you all screamed ya hearts out when we let go Gibbs (I was one of them fans) you all screamed when we let go of rhino and Ryan (I wasn't one of them fans) now the club resigns Liam and you are still carrying on that they should have given him a 1 year deal there is just no pleasing you lot, Stryker if we resign Farah will you be opposed to the 4 year deal that has been put to him because let's face it he has been at the club all his career played rep footy captained the side similar to Liam Fulton, like most of us fans we will be over the moon if robbie signs up again just like everyone is excited that Liam resigned, except for a minority…...... Time to get off your high horse methinks!
Nobody is bagging the signing - only the length of it.
Seriously - you cant compare Gibbs , Heighington , Ryan or Fulton to Farah.
Farah is a superstar who can and will, demand big money - with teams lining up to sign him.
He is our captain and the glue that holds the team together.
Like the others Fulton is a good player and loyal clubman…. no more , no less.
Four more years for him in our top 17 is a big ask.

Guess what, thats what this whole thread, hell the entire forum boils down to, opinions. Just because you feel so strongly about it doesn't mean everyone else has to. You said yourself it was your opinion and everyone has a right to their own. Its rather condescending of you to try and tell people how they should think

I'd probably prefer josh Papalii, yeh Fulton is a good defender, all first graders SHOULD be good defenders, but does he look good cause generally we are poor in this area?
Gibbs was a great defender, didnt seem to matter then to the club back then .
Neither did him having the chance to be a one club player.
As with the loyalty argument as well…..the club chops players when it sees fit, loyalty doesnt come into it any more
Yeh Papallii probably earned more for his deal, and I think maybe we get some discount for Liam as a long serving player or that may have already been used.
