Lichaa vs Cherrington

Watching the Dogs-Eels game, and this being the first time I've ever seen Lichaa play I'm not impressed. His service is poor, hasn't looked threatening, and seems to be struggling with the minutes. On a few occasions there's been other Dogs having to dart in to dummy half at the last minute while Lichaa catches his breath back field.

From my understanding, he had similar raps to Cherrington, but I can't help but think we're doing the right thing by keeping Manaia in NSW Cup. I don't think he should be on the bench in ressies, but it definitely shows the step up he'd have to take.
No one is suggesting Manaia play a full 80 in firsts, but there's no rush at this point in the season.

Lichaa is good. I'm a big fan and very skilled. His service is good, threatening and a classy hooker. Nice step. Don't base your opinion on 1 game. He's only played about 17 first grade games and rep City already. The kid's 21 and just changed clubs as well.
 
Lichaa is forced to be just a real catch and passer. The Dogs strength is their big men, and that's where all their attack comes from. Cherrington would play the same role if it were him.
 
His passes were sloppy all game, no real shape on them at all.
Reminds me of Kris Keating who could only pass one way yet still was rated a better half than Hodkinson for a year.

I didn't really rate him in last nights game either…
I think Cherrington >
He'll benefit from working his way through NSW CUP,
his chance will come and he'll be better from the development too, imo.
 
I agree with letting him have a year in the NSW cup against men.
Too many kids these days are forced to make the jump up before they are ready.
I remember watching Les Boyd as a young kid play for a Wests in a first grade trial game years ago, and demolish anyone one in front of him, both in defence and with the ball,

Even after that game Roy sent him back to his country club for one more season as he didn't think that he was ready for the week to week pressure. When he returned the next year
He was unstoppable.
Not saying that he wouldn't have been just as good if he stayed, but he was given the chance to mature a bit.
I know it was a different game in those days, but I still think that some of the young kids coming up through the NYC are nowhere near ready for 1st grade.
That comp sometimes resembles touch football
 
I don't think we can rush the guy, no matter how good he gets. We want him to be Robbie's replacement so the focus needs to be on keeping him off the radar of other clubs until Robbie is closer to retirement. I think that should even include the 1st grade bench for this year and most of next.

Halatau can fill the void till then.

That, and Reynolds is near on useless. Hodkinson isn't terrible, but Reynolds is ordinary.

Last night was the best game I've seen him play, which is not saying much. He doesn't look ready for 80 minutes in first grade, but plenty of people think he's got great talent.
 
From what JT said at the press conference Halatau will be Robbie's stand-in during Origin, so Cherrington certainly isn't being rushed.
 
As I have said above.

I think Lichaa is a very talented player and like a lot of our boys, we need to be patient with them. Lichaa is in the same boat. Very young with so much potential and we saw glimpses of his talent tonight. His try got them back in the game. I'm tired of people on here expecting instant results from these kids.

Yep the youngster got by another couple of youngsters to score.
