Life after death?

Yes some things can't be explained Sirro When I was young our next door neighbour and close friend got diagnosed with cancer (terminal) . When my Dad remarried she was at the wedding and said she would be out of here wheelchair in 6 weeks She died 6 weeks to the day later . Thats not the weird bit though . About 6 months later the husband and his two sons took a job in Korea . After they moved dad started seeing something outside my door at night . Their son would always come over and we had bunk beds He would always sleep in the top . Dad thought he knew what it was and said one night when he saw the thing they have moved to Korea out loud . He never saw the thing outside the door again .

i believe you. some people do see spirits, even if its just for a split second like a flash.

This has happened not only to myself, but to some friends and I have also heard stories as well.

But when a person dies (especially when you are with them) almost instantly they become nothing but a body, an empty shell. The body no longer the person you knew or loved, but just an inanimate object. I know it sounds horrible, but think about it, we never describe the body as a person but just as what it is, a body. It is no longer the person but just an empty shell, the energy that was the person is no longer held within the vessel that once held it. Even the way we talk about it, I have myself heard a person exclaim "it isn't him" when discussing a loved ones remains, and as I said at the beginning my friends have heard or said similar themselves and I have also heard other stories that are the same.

So if the energy that made the body the person is no longer held within that body where has it gone? Basic science teaches us that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed so it must go somewhere, heaven? hell? reincarnation? returned to the source? even ghosts and apparitions, I don't know, but it does go somewhere.

Great post.

That actually warms the heart a little cos sometimes i picture a loved one and imagine what there body would be like being rotten away, (sick i know but i cant help it)….....but to imagine it isnt them...well thats a nice thing.

Viewings and feeling the life(warmth) leave a dead body would be the most horrendous things I have experienced . If you have never been to a viewing I suggest that if don't feel you have to do it DON"T . Having the memory of that effects the way you think about the person When I remember the 3 I have been to the first thought or memory of that person you love dearly that always comes to mind first is that picture .

thats what i was basically saying craegus except im saying our bodies are never us. we are just the spirit inside our body. our body is like a car. if u drive a holden are you a holden or are you the person driving it

after reading the last few posts its moved into a more interesting subject IMO,and leaves me with another question for ppl who are yet to contribute, do you have any personal experience of supernatural encounters?

What about people like John Edwards and Lisa Williams who have shows on Fox where they claim to speak to relatives of people in the audience. Sometimes what they say is verified by the people in the audience and sounds credible. It would be interesting to know whether this sort of stuff is fair dinkum ie it is possible to communicate with those who have passed on.

i have doubts about some of those shows.

that doesnt mean that sometimes those who have passed on dont communicate with us though

Totally agree, Happy. I hate viewings and hope I never have to go to another one … My memories of 2 very special people are spoilt because I had to view them ... My mum, however, loves viewings. She is a palliative care nurse, and thinks it's very important to make the person look right for the relatives.

I think your mum is right Suzie, I've been to the morgue a number of times, there is a definite need to prepare bodies for when relatives view them. It helps people remember their loved ones as they were. It must be comforting for those who believe the spirit moves on.

Complete charlitans IMO preying on the vulnerable.

I have experienced some things I couldn't explain at the time…

When I was 17, I woke up one night paralysed in my sleep, I was lying face up and the first thing I remember seeing were the curtains move right above me, the window wasn't open and I looked towards the open door to my bedroom and there was a purplish figure standing there, like an aura. I tried to call out to my parents but nothing came out. I was probably paralysed for a couple of minutes, eventually I was able to move again and the figure disappeared. The following night the same thing occurred, except I was lying on my side when I woke up. I was able to fight the paralysis a bit more and managed to roll over. The figure that was there last night was just a head that appeared to be looking around the corner into my room.

I found out much later that sleep paralysis happens during REM sleep and sometimes the mind wakes up before the body does and hallucinations can certainly be a part of that as the mind starts to panic.

When I was in my early 20's, at the flat I was renting, I remember waking up and going into the kitchen, but I didn't go too far in because one section of the kitchen was pitch black, much darker than the rest of the place and I felt what I can only describe as 'evil'.

The only explanation I can think of is that maybe I didn't wake up at all and it was such a vivid dream that I thought I did wake up.

I currently do security work, doing patrols and alarm responses and one night I drove passed a building and I saw a woman in the main foyer area. I assumed it was just a staff member, so I pulled up, got out of the car, but she wasn't there as I looked back into the foyer. She was dressed in black with long black hair. Thinking that she took the staircase down I walked inside anyway to check the place out. It was pretty warm inside, but only after a couple of seconds the hair on the back of my neck raised up and I felt what I can only describe as cold punches in the chest. Fairly freaky, but I went upstairs to the top floor anyway to finish my patrol, as I did that the 'punches' got faster. I remember saying in a loud voice "Look, I'm just going to do my lock up and then I'm out of here".....the 'punches' stopped pretty much right away.

Obviously the punches could all be explained away that it was me scaring myself, but I can't explain the figure I initially saw. I certainly wasn't thinking of anything like that prior, never had any spooky experiences at the site before.

I think if people look back on certain events, do a little research, have a good hard think about it, there's probably a lot of reasonable explanations for things we can't explain.

It's called cold reading cunno and some good editing for TV, what you don't see on those shows are all the misses these people get.

Thanks Tigerdave, yes I'm not surprised that editing is involved to gain ratings, have watched them a few times but gets tedious after a while and time to get on with reality.

On a lighter note, as for the title of this thread, I was wondering about that after being at last nights game- torture.

Yeah from what I understand, audience members of John Edwards and James Van Praagh have to sign a waiver saying that they won't discuss what went on with the show to other people. I think Penn and Teller talked about it on their show Bullsh!t

Here's a good vid with Derren Brown and Richard Dawkins talking about cold reading
